Googled the agent's name and found his linkedin. Looks like he checks out, but between his name and profile picture, I'm not so sure this guy isn't a hit man for the mob

Looks like someone near you is interviewing for TS//SCI clearance.

Pretty standard stuff.

It’s legit
They’re checking up on a candidate for a position

Code for a certain 3 letter Agency.

Years ago, a guy from the FBI approached me in the parking lot by the fraternity house where I was living. He was doing a background check on a recent graduate who I knew and I answered his questions. He knew the guy was a member of the fraternity and was just going to approach people in the parking lot until he found someone who knew the candidate.

My advice is to call them and set up a meeting at a public place like Starbucks. Don’t invite them into your home and don’t go to their office.

The note stated is necessary that I call them back

It may be legit but who are they to tell you what it is necessary that you do?

I thought this was America.

It's legit. 15 years ago had a neighbor that we hung out with him and his wife regularly. I had to talk to someone about him for a security clearance when he was transitioning after graduating from LSU to active duty. He was in cyber security. He had no idea they were talking to me. They just go through people who know them.

I assumed this would be a phone interview. It's not?

By posting that here, you probably just cost a friend the opportunity of landing a job they have waited years to land.

I had to speak to an fbi agent regarding a position my cousin’s wife was hired for. I didn’t enjoy that. I just remember answering with “to the best of my knowledge…” a lot.

More than likely legit. I have had that happen to me as well and ended up being part of a friend's security clearance process.

Yes, some government agencies will talk to families and friends when doing security and background checks on applicants.

My position in the Navy required top secret. I was amazed at how far reaching they got.

I get those every so often, just part of the background check for certain security clearances.

I've had several requests for security clearance info, but always at my office. The investigator will have a specific list of questions, and he will know that some of them are not relevant, but he has to ask them anyway. I have ended up replying "I don't know" to a lot of them, which is a perfectly legitimate answer.

I know that for my own clearance, I was 31 years old and they interviewed at least one of my high school teachers.

TeddyPadillacNormally the person they are doing the check on would have told you they were using you as a reference

They’re not supposed to tell you that they gave your name as a reference. My buddy got interviewed recently because his friend was applying for secret service.
