re: Nothing is more depressing than a dragged-out job search

I feel like I have the skills but not a body of work, so I've only applied for a couple of basic jobs in the field, one of which has remained open for 6-7 months. For that one specifically, I just feel like - could you not just interview me and see if I could do it? Obviously your current search plan isn't working.
I have always wondered about this myself.
I've had jobs where I applied, got the generic rejection email, and then 4 months later they are STILL actively hiring for the same job, paying extra to LinkedIn or whoever to promote the job posting. OK, you didn't even give me a phone screen let alone interview, so clearly your job search isn't working. In this case I am almost certain those supposed "confidential" questions you are forced to answer in applications about your race, gender, military service and disabilities are used to filter you out.
OR, you have the companies you interview for, do well in the interviews, and they turn you down. Then you still see them actively hiring for the role weeks or months later. Alright, you are still looking, what was wrong with me to the point you are still dragging out your search? In this case I laugh. Either they are trying to find some sucker to low ball, or they are looking for the picture perfect candidate who zero flaws whatsoever.

One thing you could do to counter the lack published materials is to document some common procedures and show that as a sample. It would show initiative and give the interviewer something to look at, as you try to get in the field. It could be something simple, like instructions for creating PDF files in Opera.
There are positions open in the Atlanta area, at least according to Linked In.

Sadly a lot of companies I have applied for lately are asking this question during the application process.

I'm going to kill you.....
With kindness.
I never claimed to be clever. Just handsome, wealthy and well endowed.
I hope all is well with you and yours.

Have you been applying to entry level sales jobs? They are generally easy to get and can lead to big $$$ in a few years.

Have you contacted an employment agency?

It's one thing to get by, its another thing to be losing out on wealth building opportunities.
I have plenty of money in the bank to "get by" for the next couple of years, but for me its about moving on with my life and continuing to build up my investment and retirement accounts that I have had to put on hold.
Only an idiot would want to stay home collecting unemployment and government money and "get by"

Every day feels like I'm failing my wife and kid.
Since the beginning of this year I've sent out 50 applications, curated pretty highly, almost all to local businesses. Our whole metro appears to be in a hiring blitz.
I've gotten 2 interviews and no offers. Wife tried to work some connections from her last employer and got nowhere.
Pretty sure all these HR gatekeepers see retail management and just throws my app in the trash. I'm only 32. I'm not asking for the fricking moon. I'm trying to be honest about my marketable skills and prospects (hence the curated applications).
Just fricking sucks your soul out every day.
All the boomers on this board assured me there were a plethora of high paying jobs available but no one wants them since the gov is giving them $600

Doing well indeed. Thank you. Hope the same for you, Bud.
Plus I'm self employed so the job search thing is beyond my ken.

Just hang in there and keep trying. You aren’t failing anyone as long as you honestly try. Good luck.

Move up the the Bay Baw, economy for people that want to work seems to be booming. $50 flights to Vegas on southwest daily.

Northeast Tennessee.
Dream offer: Technical Writing
Actual best case transition: Entry level product or sales analysis or logistics/operations support. I've started looking at Jr project management positions in construction because some of the companies around here are pretty good about training OTJ if you're a hard worker with some appreciable skills.

My pay isn't great but it contributes to the household (wife is an OT baller), but my schedule is nothing but nights and weekends and it leaves my wife to take care of our kid all the time while we have almost no days off together. Things as simple as a weekend day trip take weeks of planning.
Every restaurant is looking for waiters/waitresses so swallow your pride and go wait tables and make very good money till you find something.

Things are much better than I deserve.
And I just got 7 chickens. My farm is slowly growing.
I can't believe you would hire someone like you.

Stick with it, you’ll get something, but also consider having a consultant look at your resume if you haven’t already. I thought mine was ironclad, but apparently the trends on what is a “good” resume these days has changed quite a bit in the last 15 years.
And for god sake, don’t put your fricking “pronouns” in your bio. I don’t care what anyone says, your resume will get shitcanned immediately if you so.
There are people that know how to write them and most who don't. What was good 3 years ago even, is not today.

I would rather eat my own shite than move back to California. I've focused my search mainly in Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, and Arizona-Utah. I don't want to live in a blue state anymore because I am tired of this mask shite and I don't think its ending any time soon.
Getting interviews isn't my problem right now, its closing the deal. I have 3 calls tomorrow, 2 on Thursday, 2 on Friday, and a couple already for next week.

So, bypass the HR bullshite.
Go and network. Go out into the world and talk with everyone. Find the ones that actually make the decisions. Buy them a drink, make jokes, build a rapport.
Then spill the truth, you’re a man with a family looking for a job. Sell yourself. Convince them you are an asset that they need, to frick all the HR bullshite, pull some strings and get you an interview with the people that matter.
When they tell you to contact HR make them shake your hand and tell you it’s not going to get thrown into the pile, it’s going to go to the decision makers.
Make them tell you no. Insist upon yourself

Going through a job search now. Getting tons of interviews, but just no breakthrough. Very frustrating to see all of these jobs online that I know I would do a kick-arse job in, but getting passed over for what I'm sure are overqualified, cookie-cutter candidates.
