Wouldn't it have been easier if the cop just left the guy.................NVMD.

Maybe next time, the police officer can remove the keys from the car before reviving the drug addict.
Well it was a female officer

They do this with passed out drunks too. It makes no sense. If you can get the keys/shut off the engine, that's one less thing to worry about.

Easier?
Yes.
But these guys were trying to do what they were trained to do as the good guys.
I see two good jobs well done. Initially saving someone in serious need and then saving an officer who was being endangered through criminal activity.
The death was doubly attributable to the scumbag who assumed room temperature during this event.
My prayers are for the people who had to endure this painful ordeal.
(BTW - is this an example of how safe police work supposedly is?)

This is why you just let nature take its course and don't bother. Anyone OD'ing likely isn't going to be anything but a drag on society if you revive them. A net liability.

I've heard junkies in SF and Seattle getting saved multiple times in same day. I agree with you, let Darwin takeover.

Until it’s your mom, brother, sister, daughter, etc.

And I can guarantee you “oh I can be saved by narcan if I OD” doesn’t run through their minds. When in the grip of active addiction you don’t think any further than I’ve got to get this in me right now so I’m not sick

Why do they keep doing this?

Why do police and ems save lives? It's the job regardless of the life choices of the person being saved.

Narcan has caused way more problems than it has solved. You have junkies getting revived 10-12 times, when they should have died years ago.

Not only does it prolong lives not worth saving, it causes them to be even riskier in their behavior because they know Narcan can save them.

And what would you do abt the non druggies who ingested a substance unintentionally?

Crazy, yes.....but I'm ok with the outcome.

Sometimes, it's just your time.

Clearly, this is a prime example.

Me too, but only because they are using it in situations were it is not needed.

PD thinks a guy is OD's, give him narcan, nothing. Assume its something else. Dump him in the ED. Turns out guy has two types of malaria... but lets just assume a guy passed out is on drugs, umk. They aren't qualified to render care.

This situation sucks for all involved.

There should be a one a day rule. You only get to be saved from one OD a day. Seriously. If you need saving multiple times in a day, its just a matter of time

That guy deserves death but I wonder if she attempted to remove him from the car before administering the narcan? I would think pumping someone with this wouldn’t be advisable while they’re in the drivers seat.
