No wonder smart kids are going to out of state schools - LSU sucks for scholarships

Kid has a 4.28 weighted GPA loaded up with Honors and AP classes, killed on his ACT and SAT (not perfect, but damned close), and LSU has only offered about $3500/year in non-TOPS scholarship $$$. Even with out of state tuition, it would be cheaper for him to go to out of state schools that have offered much better scholarships.
bullshite.

Doesn’t tops provide full tuition to anyone with good enough grades and scores?

Apply at Alabama. They will throw money at you.

LSU penalizes in-state students simply because TOPS is an option for them. So they dole out more $$$ to out-of-state students to entice them, while still making much more money off of them over in-state students. What's sad, though, is at the same time LSU's out-of-state scholarship opportunities are still laughable compared to the Florida's, Auburn's, Alabama's, Tennessee's, etc..

I had over a 4.0 GPA, 15 hours of college credit, and was in the 98th percentile nationally on the ACT, got a thousand bucks a semester.

If your son were black and had a 2.0, they would be rolling out the red carpet for him.

I hate to say it, but this is 100% true. And the degree will be just as quality as an LSU degree.

I know. He qualifies for a scholarship package that with room and board would be cheaper than LSU to attend, by a mile.
But...he hates the Tide

Yeah tuition, which is less than all the fees they tack on

On paper, yes.
To look at him, you'd be asking for his passport and visa

From what I understand TOPS is f'ing it up for the really gifted/smart students. My niece had great grades, made a 35 on the ACT, and was involved in several sports and academic clubs. She's going out of state for the same reason.
The state is spending all the money on TOPS to send a bunch of mediocre kids to college.

Send him to Bama. They’ll pay him to go there.
