re: No wonder smart kids are going to out of state schools - LSU sucks for scholarships

This was the breakdown for my kid (30 ACT, 4.4 GPA) this current school year at LSU:

Tuition: $8,046.60
Fees: $4,235.40
Dorm: $8,250
Meal plan: $4,030
Books: $1,000

Honors TOPS: $8,262
Scholarship: $2,000

Total: $10,262

Out of pocket: $15,300

Out of the 6 co-Valedictorians in his class, none went to LSU. 1 went to Georgia Tech, 1 La. Tech, 3 Univ. of South Alabama, 1 don’t know where.

The one who went to La. Tech (engineering) had a 32 or 33 on the ACT and got a full ride to La. Tech. LSU wasn’t even close financially - he would have got $500/ yr. more than my kid in scholarships.

I’d advise to branch out and look at other states. Let your kid go see something new.

But stay in the SEC of course. Gotta get that experience. Ole Miss, Uga, Arkansas etc.

The king of LSU: After nearly a decade of budget cuts and uncertainty, LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander said he believes that Louisiana’s flagship university is now on solid footing. “I’m very pleased with where we have been for the last two years,” Alexander said during an interview for the LaPolitics Report podcast. “We’ve had two stable budgets, which means that we haven’t been cut and have been able to get back on our feet.” He adds the financial progress made over the past 24 months has allowed LSU to recruit top faculty and students after years of being raided by other schools. “We’ve become the aggressor out of state, to bring in some of the best and brightest to Louisiana.” Finally, King says financial stability is allowing LSU to enroll and graduate students in record numbers. “The freshman class is the largest and most diverse freshman class that we have ever had. So...LSU/King considers it a "problem" that LSU was getting raided for the "best and the brightest" out of state students and that they have now "fixed" that?

I could tell when you said Arkansas and OU offered. They LOVE DFW kids. Both schools are full of north Texas students.
