Exactly. New Zealand has done nothing but delayed the inevitable.

What sucks about this is that we could have been in a similar situation as New Zealand because we once had a plan in place that resembled what New Zealand did.

No, we couldn’t have. They are an island nation very sparsely populated with extremely strict immigration and travel restrictions.

We have massive amounts international travel and we had this event called Mardi Gras that is an international destination.

Also to put it in perspective, they have a population of houston.

at that point a travel ban should have been put into place.

It’s was tried. The usual players challenged it in court

I don’t know what your goal is in creating this thread.

Are you advocating for mandatory strict lockdowns? Are you suggesting this is our fault because we didn’t put Bush’s plan in place?

This is really silly meaningless whataboutism. You’re just trolling right? You’re not this stupid are you?

Are the ocean. That’s the first really important point. For decades, politicians have done all they can to make sure people can just walk into the US.

The second point is that, unless everyone has been infected, as soon as they allow people in again, they will have another outbreak. Will they shut their economy down completely each time there’s an outbreak?

New Zealand has no future with their plan though

They survive off tourism. So, eventually they have to open up. And when they do, they are fricked. It will spread there like crazy since nobody has any immunity

they're just holding out for a vaccine

as with all of these policies, it all depends on the time to a vaccine

i wonder how long they can hold out before being forced to open up

Hawaii is doing this as well. You need a negative test result within the week prior to entry or you have to quarantine for two weeks.

And their rates are skyrocketing.

New Zealand is going to get hammered eventually.

it's happened literally everywhere that got on top of CV19 early on. as soon as they open up, even a little, BOOM, spread

NZ may legit have 0 cases on their island, which is great, as long as they effectively close their island

Yes

And smart people signed off on their shutdown. Reasonable people made it happen.

It’s crazy.

New Zealand also took on massive amounts of debt. Debt that will take them generations to get out of.

On top of that their plan torpedoed their economy and the projections are bleak at best.
