What sucks about this is that we could have been in a similar situation as New Zealand because we once had a plan in place that resembled what New Zealand did.
Do you get your rocks off by posting nonsensical BS like this?

Now it has 20.. Considering the majority of this board are idiots the up vote to down vote ratio makes sense.
Yes I know New Zealand is on an Island. The US has to big fricking oceans on both sides that people have to fly over to get to (with the exception of Canada, Mexico and central and south America.
My point is. The first case was reported on January 19th and we were aware of what was going on in China.
If the pandemic playbook wasn't eliminated and it was followed, as soon as the first case in the US was reported a travel ban should have been put in place and a shut down be ordered along with social distancing guidelines.
It is possible it was being spread around as early as NYE which could be part of the reason NYC had the problems they had. The reason it hit the NO area as bad as it did was because of Mardi Gras.
If taken serious by the federal government when the first case was reported and aggressive action would be taken, international travel might still be shut down, but we would be closer to normal than being one of the few countries that are seeing a rise.
How fricking hard is that to figure out?

The country of 5 million people implemented strict lockdown measures in April. All restrictions on New Zealand businesses were lifted by June, but its borders remain closed to outside visitors

That you don’t have to quarantine if you have a negative test within a week.
They still have a two week quarantine.
On September 1st, they are supposed to allow people to bypass quarantine if they have a negative test within 72 hours.
However the Governor is likely to announce within the next day or two that they are pushing that date back. They have had a huge increase in cases lately.
Heck, they just reinstated the inter-island quarantine.

New Zealand customs will freak the frick out if you try to enter the country with a foreign candy bar or dirt from elsewhere on your hiking shoes—of course they’re going to be the gold standard of corona virus prevention from outsiders.

Seriously read some articles.
People have been caught desperately trying to escape quarantine because they are effectively putting any suspected positive people in prison.
The stuff they are doing there is dystopian future stuff.
