calm down, this is a different socialism. it's gonna work this time.

Feel like this one is a bit different than the others

Economic right

What about there social ideals??

Fixing the economy for a country like that is way easier than changing the social mindset of a society.

not true. most cultures just feign rebellion while taking it up the arse til they're dead.

a hot meal and a fat woman mean way too much to most cultures.

Someone has never studied political science or economics:

quote:

No. 1, Venezuala does not have a socialist government. Its more of a marxist dictator.

Socialism is defined as the government ownership of the means of production and distribution under authoritarianism.

In sum, Marxist dictator = socialism

quote:

No. 2, the politicians you refer too are embracing social democracy, not socialism. Social democracy is more like what Sweden has.

Ignorance in spades.

Sweden has a purer form of capitalism than the U.S. They are, in no way, socialist.

Yes. Social Democrats in the U.S. abhor Venezuela and its policies! Clearly the vague description of their policy goals stands in stark contrast to the ones sought by Bolivar regimes! Not a convenient moving of goal posts at all!

These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger. Who's the banana republic now?

I agree that this article is ridiculous, but to be fair this was written in 2011. 2 years before Maduro took the presidency of Venezuela, already a shitty country, and completely fricked it in the arse.

I can sum this post (and most progressive thought) thusly:

"I know better than you how you should be helping your fellow man, and I'll use the power of the government to make you help the way I think you should. Because I'm more enlightened than you, you *insert ad hominem attack of choice here*."

A high school kid in the USA working 15 hours a week earning minimum wage is in the top 20% of salaries across the world.

But capitalism doesn’t work.

Except, ya know, the face of this so called "social democracy" movement has been quoted praising Venezuela's form of gov't.

But let's not let that get in the way. He just liked the good parts right?
