My wife got a ticket for not stopping long enough at a stop sign. She came to a complete stop, nothing was coming, she went... Cop even said she came to a stop, just not long enough. Try and figure that one out.

A stop sign at this location serves no purpose if you're going right.

and was probably added due to traffic congestion in the afternoon and cars on the side road (next to white house) couldn't turn left due to cars backing up.

So, it does in fact serve a purpose

How long would a cop hold on to dash cam footage of you?

i don't know the actual answer, but I would guess that all footage is saved somewhere for minimum set period of time.

I saw a comedian do a bit one time that is appropriate here.

Comedian: I came to a stop, mostly, at a stop sign and rolled on. A cop pulled me and said I never stopped.

Comedian: Well, I kind of stopped, I slowed down.
Cop: But you didn't STOP.
COMEDIAN: I slowed down.

The cop took out his Billy club and started hitting the comedian.
Comedian: HEY, what are you doing?!!!?
Cop: You want me to stop... Or just slow down.

Except if oncoming traffic is turning left... Especially since there's not a turning lane on the oncoming side, someone might be waiting and blocking traffic forever waiting to turn left without the stop sign. You later admitted that traffic is heavy in that spot, so someone waiting to turn left might be there a LONG time waiting without the stop sign.

There also used to NOT be a stop sign at this location. I'm not sure when they added it since I don't travel this route often, but I estimate it was within the last 2 years

Any new stop sign within the last year will have a bright orange or yellow sign above it or below it saying "NEW" to call attention to it. At least they do this in Florida and Arkansas, not 100% sure about LA or AL

I got that explanation making a right turn on a red light for a red light ticket. At least you can round file those without consequences.

So what is your argument?

That's why I'm here. To see if it's worth arguing and what should that argument be.

Just ask for deferred adjudication, pay your fees, and in a certain amount of time (I think it's 6 months) your ticket drops off your record.

Fighting this with an argument is asinine.

Go to court, plead not guilty and they will then offer you something that is a non moving violation that you can plead guilty to. Pay the fine, pay the court costs and it avoids your insurance.

Any ideas on arguing this BS ticket I received? Cop says I didn't come to a complete stop.

thats strictly a judgement call and they always 100% takes the cops side on those, you are SOL so pay it.

not a complete stop is determined by the cops opinion on how many seconds you stayed stationary after stopping, it doesnt mater if you stopped then went, that doesnt count, all that matters is if the cop thinks 1, 2, or 3 seconds is what defines a stop.

i got one coming down a levee because i stopped 5 ft before the stop sign because had i stopped at the stop sign literally on the edge of the highway, my front end and bumper would be in the road already blocking traffic. i had video evidence and the cop told the judge i stopped as i said i did, but it wasnt, in his opinion at the correct spot i needed to stop. cost me a days work to fight it, $150 fine, plus $80 court costs

I knew a person that got pulled over by a cop for failure to stop at a stop sign - except it wasn't a stop sign - it was a yield sign - she took him back and showed him the sign - he still gave her a warning

Yes . Fight.

Call clerk to reschedule for work reasons which will remove it from officers normal sched and maybe he doesn’t show.

Say you did stop and make them prove you didn’t.

PIA but increases chances will go your way.

Hopefully you at least told the cop to go frick himself since you’re going to have to pay the ticket.

What town is this? What is the likelihood of the officer showing up? Wouldn’t it be thrown out if he doesn’t?

You rolled through the stop. Pay your fine a-hole.

Get some white spray paint and stencils and write “DON’T” above STOP. Take a pic and get Kinko’s to create a big poster-sized version of the pic. Get the cop to take the stand in court and then tell him to direct his attention to Exhibit A. Exhibit A is your poster on an easel next to the stand. Ask the officer if that’s the intersection and the sign. When he says “yes”, look at the judge and say “no more questions, your honor.” Case will be thrown out before you get back to your seat.
