Most big four accounting firms do this. They claim it’s better for the environment or something

All 10 of y'all should just work from home. When questioned, everyone can say they were running late and assumed all desks would be occupied

I don't like working from home. I like communicating in person with people. Especially because people tend to be bad communicators, doubally in INstant Messangers.

This is not new, Microsoft has been doing this for several years in their non main campus locations.

Rent is expensive and if a lot of your staff works from home, why waste the money.

I get your reservation about this but grab your sack and ask your boss to give you a permanent location since you go in most days and can’t work from home.

This is not new - and it has a name - "hoteling"

If you are in a line of business where you only are going to be in the office 1 day a week or less, it makes sense.

If you are in the office every day, it's terrible.

Companies do it to cut down on office space.

If I was a BA or consultant, I'd be all for it. But I need two screens at least.

. Apparently if your job is at a large campus and you need to move around all over during the day for meetings and things having a permanent work station can be a hindrance.

Possibly, but I'd dearly miss having multiple monitors.

Talk to your co workers and see if they will agree to make one desk your desk.

Or make sure all your coworkers sees you wiping boogers underneath a certain desk....the booger desk will always be available....lol

What they have are different kinds of work stations. So you'd set up your meeting/work in the areas that fit your needs. So I believe there were areas that would have traditional desks and dual monitors and then you'd have a laptop dock that you'd plug into.

All of my Fortune 500 businesses and offices are appropriately and sufficiently furnished, my good fellow.

No they aren't dumbass. They're the ones that do this, it's called hoteling. We do it now. I think we have about 60% desks to employees and they're about to cut even more back I think. Something like if you don't check in at least 70% of the time you lose your spot if you had one.

So you’re saying if I’m late, I get to work from home? Hell, sign me up.

Why type of work allows you to work from home?

Accounting firms often do this for their audit staff since they are out of the office large portions of the year. Understandable, but pretty shitty to not have a desk you can call your own.
