I like the "Don't just tip $1 per drink" people. frick you. It took you 45 seconds to get me my draft beer. You think you're worth more than $80 an hour doing unskilled labor?
If you’re drinking $5 beers at the bar $1 per drink is 20%. $1 per drink is perfectly fair unless you’re at one of those fart sniffing oiled mustache crafted cocktail places.

We are lucky. Go to Europe. I was in Germany and Austria and received the absolute worst service everywhere. It couldn't be because I was American because I venture to guess most Americans tip more than usual in Europe. It made me seriously appreciate that we tip here in the States and because of that we mostly get good service. We literally spent 20 minutes trying to pay our bill before our friend tapped the "waitress" on the shoulder in a place with all of 4 tables. Then she told us that tip wasn't included which was a complete and total lie being we were in Europe. So I am happy to tip here and get good service almost all of the time.
i've never had bad service in europe. i believe what you are considering bad service is them actually being polite. it's considered rude to rush people out of the door over there when you finish your meal because people typically have a coffee and talk for a while.

Outside of asking for some insanely elaborate drink or going to a bar for the first time, I tip a dollar a drink.

Never had bad service in Europe. All customers belong to all waiters. Tax is included and tipping is not expected.
It’s really not anymore expensive to eat out over there when you factor that in.

Tell your friend he can kiss my happy arse.

I'm going to tip you 20% of the final bill rounded up to the nearest dollar in almost every case. Unless I'm at my favorite bar, they get tipped more. Or if I have a gift card, I will tip on the total before the discount.

If it's on a tab to pay with my CC you get the 15-20% on the final amount. HH prices or not. Aint no one got time to figure out what the real amount is, and the calculate it.
If it truly have 2-4 beers then it is easier to do the $1 a drink.
These people need to start bitching at their employers about increasing the hourly. Yes it's min 2.13 BUT that is a MIN. Stop pissing off the customer with this excess tip crap. No one gets into the service industry not knowing this is the deal you get.

Serivers are the new teachers. Everybody cry about their pay and figure out a way to help them.

Europeans don’t expect a tip. Americans do it anyway but you are typically fine by not tipping.

This shite is out of control
Had a friend that works in the “service industry” say that people who go to happy hours should be tipping based on non happy hour prices.
When will this shite stop?
frick that. I'm going to start a new trend in tipping on the wholesale price of the drink.

What about "unhappy hour" such as a ballpark where I was recently taken for $14 for a draft beer?
20% of 14 is $2.80. Nope. He got a buck per.
I also went to a dive bar with $3 draft. Was so pleased at their reasonableness that the waitresses there got an extra buck or two kicked their way.

when i go to a place with half priced beers I tip on the full price. works out waaaaay better for me than paying full price for beers
eta: I do that on my own....not because I've been told to.
etaa: it really only amounts to like a dollar or two so I'm not gonna cry over it like a poor

I'm done with this whining about tips. I'm going to start unloading spare change from now on. If it comes to $0.37 then so be it.
And why do people virtue signal with their tipping? No one really cares that the local bar maid likes you and thinks you're a good tipper.
