Yeah, you negotiate your salary.
But the customer is not the boss.
In any business.

We are lucky. Go to Europe. I was in Germany and Austria and received the absolute worst service everywhere. It couldn't be because I was American because I venture to guess most Americans tip more than usual in Europe. It made me seriously appreciate that we tip here in the States and because of that we mostly get good service. We literally spent 20 minutes trying to pay our bill before our friend tapped the "waitress" on the shoulder in a place with all of 4 tables. Then she told us that tip wasn't included which was a complete and total lie being we were in Europe. So I am happy to tip here and get good service almost all of the time.
I'm not a smart man, but I typed in 'tipping in Europe' and this was the first thing that popped up.
Here's a tip: Don't stress over tipping. While tips are appreciated no matter where you travel, tipping in Europe isn't as automatic nor as generous as it is in the United States, and in many countries, they're not expected at all.
Me think you is a tard.

Yeah, good service is over there. They probably just didn't like him and it's nice not having to tip.
I wish we would get rid of tipping here. People get paid a real wage and good restaurants will run off the people who won't do their jobs.

If I'm at a happy hour it's some place that knows me. I'm tipping the usual.

i tip based on looks only.

I've usually had good service in Europe. I appreciate that the servers don't hover which annoys me about a lot of servers here. The only time I left a tip in Germany the waitress followed me out of the bar to return the money I "forgot".

At some point these assholes should realize the actual minimum tip is $0 and be grateful for what they get
As soon as the govt makes restaurants and bars actually pay employees a decent wage not dependent on tips, I’m sure the attitude would change.

I don't know. A lot of states and cities pay above the federal minimum already. They make a minimum of $12 an hour before tips where I live and the attitude is the same.

With the push for $15 minimum wage out here in CA we have begun to tip for the level of service provided but usually not more than 15%.

Drink tips arent based on price though
Posted on 8/21/18 at 5:42 pm to tiger1014
I will usually order twice as many drinks due to happy hour prices, so maybe I should only tip on half my bill?

If all they do is get me a draft beer they are getting a dollar. If they are knowledgable about beer and make an effort to engage me and make good recommendations they will get 3 or 4 per

Stopped right there. Take your "workers of the world unite!" socialist BS to the Poli Board. If the server doesn't like where they work, QUIT.
Posted on 8/21/18 at 5:48 pm to jbgleason
So people who hate on waiters wanting tips can bitch but people pointing out that waiters live off of tips is socialist?
Posted on 8/21/18 at 5:50 pm to tiger1014
I have a better idea: stop including tax in the meal total for tipping purposes. Your server shouldn’t be rewarded for handling your meal’s sales tax.
See, it’s easy to push back.

I quit tipping. So many ballers on the OT over tipping, I figure it averages out.

Nobody is stopping the waiter from getting a second job. I know it's tough to roll out of bed at 3pm everyday for your 4pm shift. Exhausting, I bet.

$3-$4 per drink is ridiculous.
