Turning the tables on the modern generation a bit with a social media influencer.

Should have had a video of him watching a video of someone else play a video game.

I realized I was getting old when I saw someone watching someone else play a video game instead of actually playing that game.

Reaction videos are the worst ones.

The gen Z influencers are really something. An entire generation with no marketable job skills except the ability to use various consumer products or try on clothes and then post about it from a cell phone.

I share your disgust, but don’t write off an entire generation. I know a lot of great young people. I’m sure you must too?

Parents would love the ones with a kid watching an old movie for the first time or listening to an old band. So we aren’t exactly immune to the concept.

The Gen Z demo I’ve encountered in the workforce largely do not have a good work ethic. It’s a major problem. They aren’t willing to make the sacrifices past generations have made that are needed for certain careers.

When I was a kid I despised witching some kid go forever on a game I wanted to play. I used to root hard for the barrels, Coily and Brutus.

That's what people don't get. The reaction videos are fake. Content makers learned long ago to love everything they watch. Let's say you love the movie Jaws and you would love to watch it again for the first time. You search youtube for "People react to Jaws". There you find a teenager, or group of influencers Jaws for the first time. They always get excited in all the right places, and scared in all the right places, then at the end gush about how awesome the movie is.

You'd love to see that way more than another person who is bored. Laughs at the shark. Doesn't get the cultural references. Can't understand anything Robert Shaw says. Says stuff like "Why don't they just...?"

All this to say, almost all reaction videos are people faking liking something.

I agree with that. But that is a far cry from “An entire generation…”

Had déjà vu waiting on the valet last night talking about where they parked the cars. Realized that it was from on of these commercials. FML

During the pandemic I discovered YouTube music reaction videos. Loved watching young black guys and gals enjoy Led Zeppelin and Steely Dan for (ostensibly) the first time. It was cool for a while and I still get them in my algorithm but I eventually realized how lame it is.
