NEW ORLEANS —
Crime experts are reporting that it's been 18 days without a murder in New Orleans.
Just two years ago, New Orleans was considered the murder capital of the U.S. Now, experts say we are leading the nation in crime reduction.
The Metropolitan Crime Commission said this is the longest we have gone without a murder since it started tracking murders in 2019.
Rafael Goyeneche said, "No one is declaring victory and saying we can go home and celebrate. We have had some streaks where we had 10, 12, and 15 days, but never 18."
Goyeneche said an uptick in proactive policing, more state police presence along with more arrests and traffic stops are all contributing factors.

There'd be about 15 if the Saints were arse to start the season.

Saints get good and all of a sudden the shooting stops. Better hope the saints don't go on a losing streak

Inflation has driven the cost of bullets up so high that even the criminals can't afford them.

Chris Rock speculated this was the way to solve random murders years ago

Storms making people stay inside and University Hospital doing work.
Just because there were no murders how many shooting incidents occurred.

What is the OT going to complain about now?

Imagine a Rest-in-Peace t-shirt for Rest-in-Peace t-shirts.

Is it possible that we arrested our way out of the problem?
The OP sheriff was crying about the jails being full but maybe the state watching over Jason Williams is leading to less charges being dropped and more criminals in general off the street?

Incredible! Might be losing our title of most murders per capita now!

Meanwhile, there has been an unusual spike in apparent murder victims' bodies found in surrounding municipalities in the last 18 days.

In other headlines, New Orleans went on an 18 day suicide spree where deceased were found to have been shot numerous times.

No one has been a bigger critic than goyeneche and he’s willing to point out good news when he sees it.
I’ve been a huge critic of New Orleans too as have many here. This news is real and it’s fantastic news.
It’s not just murder either. It’s car jackings, muggings, assault, and other violent related crimes.
It’s great news.

New Orleans is far off of that
I think birmingham now holds that honor.
They actually have an increase in murder for 2024!

Did they re-define what murder means?
