What is with these speed cameras in NOLA? I wok for a government agency and came to New Orleans to help folks recover from Hurricane Ida. Helped hundreds, any way. Part of my job is to drive and meet people to try and get them housing o to get their homes repaired. Naturally, the more people I meet in a day the more people I help to recover from the disaster.

Spent over two months there working in Treme, the lower 9th, the Rosenwald Center on S. Broad and several other locations including Westwego and St Bernard Paish. So, as you can see, I moved around quite a bit. helping people.

I return home after 2 plus months and I stat to get speeding tickets in the mail. The first on was for $75 bucks for going 5MPH over the limit. Hell, even the cops will give you that or a bit more. Then I got another one and I have to admit, I was speeding (15 over). The third and fourth were quite interesting. They photo's were taken ONE MINUTE apart and in the first one I was only going FOUR mph over the limit.

So, here I sit with well over $500 in NOLA speeding cam tickets and everyone is telling me not to pay because it a third party agency doing the billing. I'm not a resident although NOLA is a second home to me and the vehicles I was operating were rental cars so my question......

PAY OR NOT TO PAY... that is the question!

Calling bullshite already. If this were true you would have been getting the tickets, plus an admin fee, via your rental car company.

I wouldn’t pay it, but if it’s a parking type ticket I’d pay it because they will boot your vehicle

I got a red light one in BR and I'm in the same boat of not knowing whether I need to actually pay.

The most recent thread I found here discussing it seemed to say not to pay, but I also don't want my credit being wrecked or having to deal with collectors.

Welcome to New Orleans!

(pro tip: don't pay. Throw the collection notices in the trash)

They will threaten to send it to collections but they cannot. There is nothing you signed saying you agree to pay.

Call him up with a double or nothing proposal. Tell him you know where they got their shoes.

If you're right, they tear up the tickets. If you're wrong, you'll pay double.

Normally agree, but unfortunately, if it's through a rental company could be screwed.

Ask yourself this question, how do they know that you were person who was driving the car?

If you can think of an explanation that worries you enough to keep you from ignoring the tickets and getting a good night's sleep despite what everyone on the internet tells you, then you should pay the ticket.

If you are comfortable that the City of New Orleans could never be able to prove that you were the one who was speeding AND you do not plan on parking the same vehicle in the City of New Orleans again, then you should not pay.

So how did they get your address? Do you live at a car rental company?

Were you driving your own personal car, a rental, or a company car?

Got one in the mail from New Orleans about a month ago, I'm not going to pay. I've had red light cameras in BR send me tickets, didn't pay those either. To date I've received one phone call from a collection agency in Arizona and one letter from a collection agency in Tennessee, I believe. On the collection call I told the guy I wasn't going to pay so he should quit calling. His only response is that the local law enforcement would boot my truck, I told him I didn't think so, but if they did I would cross that bridge when I got there. So, he didn't even imply that it would affect my credit score, that was my only concern. So far it has never shown up on a credit report, since the call i've bought a house and two vehicles. In none of the credit reviews did it come up. In the letter there was no mention of credit score either. I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing. I have paid for conventional speeding tickets in this period, I don't mess around with those. I had a big issue one time right after college from a speeding ticket in florida.

To wrap it all up, I wouldn't sweat the phot speeding ticket, but do what you feel works best for you.

I pay parking tickets and not camera tickets. Car's never been booted. Take it for what it's worth.

I got two of them bad boys on the same day when my family and I went to my brother-in-law's graduation ceremony. One was five over and the other was 7-8 over. Never paid them. That was in 2018 and I've been to NOLA plenty of times since then.
