Do we always have to settle for run down POS facilities? Can't we have at least one nice shiny object?

Who is eating at the airport in New Orleans?
The security lines at MSY are unpredictable (well, I guess they are predictable if you know what conventions are in town). I often get there way early, and if I breeze through security, I'll eat there. Especially if it's early or around dinnertime.
I would guess 90% or more of the people eating at MSY are departing passengers, not arriving ones.

If I'm going to the airport and I'm hungry, I'll typically grab a burger or sandwich on the way.

I understand your point about the security lines and often find myself with time to kill at my gate. Maybe I would eat, if there was better food and it was reasonably priced.

To each his own. But I take a large number of middday or evening flights. So an 11:45 departure would have me stopping for a burger at 10:30 on Williams Blvd. I’m not eating that early, nor am I waiting until 2-3pm when I land. So I’ll grab something right before I board at 11:20 and eat it before we take off.

Gotcha. My mother was diabetic. When she was traveling to see my sisters (one is in CA and one in NY), I often had to get her something to eat at the airport. I'm not that locked into my meal schedule and frequently skip breakfast or lunch, so it's easier for me.

With their headquartsovong to DFW, will Smoothie King still have their kiosks?

Same here. I almost never eat until I reach my destination. Even if I have a layover. Oddly, I do usually eat on the trip home (either at my starting location or during the layover).

I normally bring a tuna fish sandwich and a couple of boiled eggs from home and just eat on the plane.

I don't know anyone in this city that wanted a new airport except those profiting from construction contracts. We really want drainage and street repairs but those really weren't much of a priority with this administration. Perhaps not shiny enough.

Wanting a world class something and actually getting are 2 different things.
Once built it will be just as shitty and poorly run as everything else in NOLA

The new airport is being financed through airport user fees. The airlines pushed for it. Nobody's taxes are going up to pay for it, and it's not taking away from (nonexistent) street repair.
It's gonna be nice, and I can't wait.

I was just at the airport this weekend. Can someone tell me why a new airport was needed? The current one is still in good shape and doesn’t seem to have any issues. Seems like a waste of taxpayer money
MSY is the worst airport in the US and I sincerely mean that. It smells, is poorly designed, and run.
Even placed like Amarillo have much better airports.

I'm not sure if they are part of the F&B package at the new terminal. But it would have nothing to do with moving HQ

Yeah. Too bad we can't use FAA money and airline money and passenger fees to pay for drainage, huh?
It's not an "either-or" thing. A pot of money that can only be used for a new terminal is being used for a new terminal. That has nothing to do with the other problems this city has.

There are two reasons that things are "poorly run" at MSY.
1) Crappy facilities / airlines not investing in said crappy facilities. For example, no Southwest bag drop, kiosks not working, bags being delayed because of crappy bag handling systems, bathrooms that are in such bad condition no amount of cleaning can fix them, etc.
2) Some of the F&B and retail. They are bringing in new vendors, hopefully will be better run.

I've flown in and out on both JetBlue and Southwest many, MANY times over the years and haven't had much of an issue. Getting into and out of the concourses is very straight-forward. With the increased tourism over the past decade, moving forward with expansion now is a far smarter thing that playing like La DoTD and waiting until years after there's a problem and then just studying it to death.
Traffic flow into and out of the airport can be a bit tricky the first couple of times but looking at the new terminal... damn the traffic routes there look more fricked up than Chinese algebra. It may work once it's all put into practice, but as of right now having two separate pickup/dropoff areas looks to be a clusterfrick in the making (unless I'm reading the plans wrong).

The "new" road configuration looks like a fricking shitshow....
That stretch of Veterans is already a shitshow, Loyola and Bainbridge wont be able to handle the traffic.
Whats going to happen to the old route?

The state finally got off their butts and have approved the money to build the access ramps and roads direct from I-10 at Loyola. Will take a few years. So at first, yeah, it's gonna be bad. Will get better as the new roads come online.
