Minors in Louisiana will need parental permission before accessing social media accounts.
State Sen. Patrick McMath, R-Covington, authored SB162, which states children ages 16 and younger must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to have a social media account. Gov. John Bel Edwards signed the bill.
quote:
According to the law, parents can monitor their child’s activity, set access schedules and review any reports the child makes.
Courts can impose a civil penalty of up to $2,500 for each violation of this act.
This law is set to go into effect on July 1, 2024

Need permission to access social media, but you can perform sex change surgeries on these children at any age. Prescribe medication to halt puberty no problem. Ok John Bell

Good. Social media is a cancer to youth

There’s no good way for social media companies to comply with this, which is by design. It’s a soft ban. Companies will self censor to avoid fines. Prepare for all Louisiana citizens to get blocked

No cell phones until 18 would be a good law.

And if a child does not have the $2500, do they pimp them out to a degen of Disney's choosing?

Right.
Your daughter can go to the doctor for pregnancy testing and medication without your knowledge or permission but a kid can’t get on social media.

This is a complete waste of time. Kids will continue to create their own accounts and social media companies will completely ignore this legislation.
Yeah, no one is doing this.
Good effort though on the part of Louisiana politicians. Between this and the porn law, they clearly have a desire to exert as much governmental control over the personal lives of their citizens as they can.

Parents can give consent through a form, a call to a toll-free number, a video call, responding to an email with steps to verify identity or any other “reasonable method” to give consent.

Parents with kids in junior high who they need to coordinate extracurricular pick ups for would slit your throat ear to ear.

Look at all these "small Government conservatives" clamoring to give Uncle Sam more control
