Lulz. Louisiana, nickle and diming their residents any way they can.
To be fair, you always owed the taxes on these purchases. It's nothing new. They are just doing more to track this to avoid people underpaying.
I just look at it as, hey I got many years of online shopping done without having to worry about getting caught underpaying...and now the gig is up.

Who the f keeps track of every purchase made online throughout the year just from out of state?
THIS is exactly what they are hoping for. That way you have no way of going back to dispute their findings as to the taxes they say you owe. You will be left with the burden of paying up the full amount.
This will be so much worse than the DMV shite show two years ago.

If you don't want the government to steal your money why not shop at an honest local retailer

The good thing is we all know whatever the state does collect will be pissed away on freeloading A-holes.

Yet one more reason people are leaving the state en masse

I wonder how the state will squander this new windfall.
They'll probably pay more money trying to figure out who owes them taxes than they'll receive in actual tax dollars.

I’ll gladly pay the taxes over depending on local/small business in the state of Louisiana! My point?! They’re the pieces of shite. Not all of course but far too many.

The only local business and economy I worry about is Martini Inc.

What's stopping the local businesses from offering online shopping themselves? If you don't adapt with the times you can't complain.
Nexus is stopping them from not charging tax.

Sure, let me just pay 150% more than what I can pay online and have to deal with horrible customer service, just for the sake of supporting local businesses.
If local business wants business, then be competitive with the online retailers. Otherwise, DWI.

How can this be legal. What is this difference if I drive Mississippi and buy something and bring it back to Louisiana or if I order it online and have it shipped? No damn difference. The taxes should go to the state from which I purchase it.

what BS
1.If I drove to TN and bought something and brought it home, should I pay La tax on it?
2.Some company in Montana is going to search all there records and send out notices just because LA wants them to?
no and no

You need to have a system in place before , retroactive taxes always cause so much anger and confusion and leads to revolts
I imagine they will try to collect retroactive taxes only on those big spenders, mostly businesses. The timing makes me think this is a scare tactic to get people to report such purchases on their 2017 tax returns.

Not sure about individuals, but if a business buys goods out of state and brings them back to La, do they not owe a "use" tax?

Maybe the reason you think you're getting bad customer service is because you're a mean person. If you meet one a-hole then that person was an a-hole. If you meet all assholes then you're the a-hole

We pay Property Taxes, Sales Taxes and Income Taxes to this state. We pay other countless other taxes, fees etc. It is hard to keep track of all the money we pay to the State. Louisiana is way over taxed for the product we get.

I have ZERO problems with supporting a local business. But when online is more convenient and often times cheaper, taxes or no, why would I not use the service they offer.
You stated you work at Best Buy. I used to love that store, but every time I go in there I am bombarded by one employee after another. Its simply not an enjoyable experience to browse and see what new products are on the shelves. This is not just Best Buy, its everywhere. So yes, Id rather save my coin and sanity and shop from my couch.

Grow up. Half the time when you go into a brick and mortar business these days and ask about something they just tell you to order it online.

Yes you do. You're buying it from someone else rather than a local business. A business that provides jobs and tax revenue.
what if I am buying something that no local business has? how does that hurt them?

Are you seriously arguing with a well known troll on this site?

Sounds good to me.
Send me a list of what I've purchased online, I'll review it to makes sure I'm not being double taxed and to remove purchases returned or never received and I have no problem paying legit taxes on the remaining items.
