New Louisiana law aims to get taxes owed by online shoppers

BATON ROUGE, La.- Online shoppers get ready. Louisiana is beefing up its efforts to collect taxes on purchases made from out-of-state Internet retailers.
Residents who bought products last year from online companies and didn't pay state sales taxes will begin receiving notifications this month from the retailers, telling them they owe taxes to the state.
The Department of Revenue says this is the first year notice letters, to be mailed by Jan. 31, will be sent to shoppers. But they'll be an annual occurrence under 2016 legislation.
Louisiana taxpayers are supposed to report online purchases for which state sales tax wasn't charged on their income tax returns and pay taxes on them.
Under the new law, retailers also must send annual reports to the revenue department, which can cross-check the information with tax returns.

I'm scrambling right now to get all my receipts together to ensure that a product that was not created, manufactured, distributed or sold in Louisiana gets taxed by the state of Louisiana.
I need Mo' Money Taxes in Shreveport to help me and let Little KK get that tax monkey off my back. Are they still open Shreveport peeps?

Lulz. Louisiana, nickel and diming their residents any way they can.
This is going to be just like the DMV “fines” from license plates “not turned in” a few years back...a shite show
You need to have a system in place before , retroactive taxes always cause so much anger and confusion and leads to revolts. Especially because Louisiana in no way has its own records together so there will be errors all over the place in the bills and collection process.

Louisiana Politicians don't mind the State becoming Somaia. They do mind about your Amazon purchases. What a shite hole.

I am not hurting a local business. Why? Because I would have never considered buying x and y product from them and I am not their customer. I simply don't exist in their minds.
Why? Because I am lazy, like shopping from the convenience of my own home and can compare online prices in a matter of seconds with a browser plug in tool.
Plus with free shipping and free returns, why would anyone want to fight traffic, other people and generally speaking, shitty local customer service?

Does this law only apply to products made or distributed within Louisiana?

I got an email from newegg asking how I wanted the list of purchases sent to me. I thought it was bullshite. It makes you wonder how this is being reported to the state.
The good thing is we all know whatever the state does collect will be pissed away on freeloading A-holes.

I wonder how the state will squander this new windfall.

I'll pay online taxes when LA can get my refund back to me quicker than August

Meanwhile, just paid local Occupational Tax on my small business. It seems that ANYTHING used in the conduct of my business is subject to an annual tax. That desk willed to me by my grandfather? Pay a tax on it every year. Computer that I just paid sales tax on when purchased? Taxed again at the end of the year and every year after? What is this shite?

They are begging you to leave the state. I seriously cannot think of any other reason they would treat their business owners so poorly.
You are already the highest taxed, while receiving the least services, people in the country. Others may pay higher taxes but they get something for it.

What's stopping the local businesses from offering online shopping themselves? If you don't adapt with the times you can't complain.
