I believe a decent attorney could argue that you were negligent in instructing your son to try and kill a venomous snake with a hatchet.

Yep.

Slam dunk case, most likely.

The good news OP, is that trying to kill a water moccasin with a hatchet is probably enough to have a jury label you as mentally retarded.

I seriously hope you mean an ax. Outside of throwing a hatchet, I can't think of a way to even fight a moccasin with a hatchet. I'd kill it with a stick first, then cut its head off with a hatchet.

He doesn't sound all that bright. He could be in his mid-30s and just now getting out of college.

Exactly...the OP doesnt have an 11 year old and doesnt own a house with a pond

None of what he posted in the OP is true

I gave my son a steak knife and told him to take care of it. I have no idea how his friend got bit. Am I fricked?

You aren’t at fault because you didn’t tell his friend to take care of it.

Therefore it is the friend’s parents’ fault for giving birth to him.

A terrible attorney could win this case against him. A decent attorney could double the size of the new boat he's been looking at.

So some kids see a cottonmouth in Louisiana and don't have enough sense to just leave it alone.

This is mother nature's way of weeding out the weak and retarded

On one hand, I guess I'm glad that no one is that dumb and a kid didn't get bitten.

On the other hand, I'm disappointed that he wasn't that dumb because this could have been an OT classic.

I've heard it both ways.

Actually, he is going to be a broke fricking moron. Depending on how bad the nerve damage is on the poor kid and how pizzed the kids parents are with wanting to get legal retribution, this could get ugly. By any stretch, the OP is about to know all there is on homeowners insurance.

I’m just imagining some 11 year old kid getting about a foot from a water mocassin while lifting a hatchet over his head and then getting surprised at what happens next
