Pfft. I waved to a black guy once. Close enough.

Seriously. Us OTers just whip out our trouser pythons to show the other snake whose territory they're on. That's usually enough to make them move along.

If his parents want to pursue the issue.....youre probably fricked.
Had the kid actually lost his foot, you would be what I like to call "double fricked"

Let me preface this buy saying i am a poor guy right out of college
How is everybody missing this? The OP started a thread a month ago saying he is a poor guy just out of college and wanting to buy a $45 pool.
Now, he has 11 year old son killing snakes?
Good catch.

Not really very successful if it bit his friend first

Clearly youre trashy. Why didn't you just hand your kid a shotgun to go kill the snake unsupervised?

Long story short my son and his friend came running into the house saying that they found a cotton mouth near the edge of the pound while they were fishing. I gave my son a hatchet and told him to just take care of it.

Start an affair with the kid's mom then blackmail her to remove the possible suit.
PROFIT!

Can we just add a “Gratuitous Legal Advice” board while we are at it?
It will be separate from the “I want to reduce my child support obligations” board.

He doesn't sound all that bright. He could be in his mid-30s and just now getting out of college.

he kid is mostly okay except for a little nerve damage.
Nerve damage sucks and it's permanent. Even a "little" nerve damage sucks, especially in a little kid who is going to have to live with it the rest of his life. That ain't good. Check your homeowner's liability limits and let your agent know a claim is a comin'.

I have taught my son how to safely dispose of snakes with a shovel
"Disposing" of a venomous snake with a shovel is pretty much NOT SAFE, dumbass. "Disposing" of a non-venomous snake is useless.

Shitty advice.
First, instruct your child to simply stay away from snakes. If he's interested in them, watch them from a distance. Secondly, instruct your child to learn to properly identify snakes.

I believe me and my son did nothing wrong
I believe a decent attorney could argue that you were negligent in instructing your son to try and kill a venomous snake with a hatchet.

I gave my son a steak knife and told him to take care of it. I have no idea how his friend got bit. Am I fricked?

This is the guy who fed his son his parents’ koi fish
