Are the strap shoes too casual for a suit?

Theoretically, maybe

In practice, nobody will care.

I definitely wear monk straps with suits. They are much more fashion forward shoes, so it is not a "conservative" look if you are used to a cap toe.

I have both the black and cognac Magannani Miro's. Best shoes I own albeit take a couple weeks to break in nicely.

I can wear them up with a suit or down with jeans. I'm wearing them now at the office as I type.

I recently bought some Wolverine Luke, 1000 Mile. Most everything I saw looked too "Italian" for me. Looks like they may be discontinuing them, so I guess I was the only one who liked them.

You need a pair of Chalmette Specials --

I recently have gotten into “nicer” shoes. I was on my 3rd pair of Cole haans and just went for AE, so far I’m a fan. I got them from an outlet, so they are “factory seconds”, but they look great to me, cost around $200. I was leaning Alden, but found these for half the cost. When I add another pair, I may spring for Alden.

Have a pair of Johnston and Murphy's from 2014 exactly like those that I'll be having to replace soon. Is that standard mileage for the brand?

I want to like Magnanni but isn’t that balogna construction?

Look for a shoe that uses stitching for the sole, not glue.

What size you wear?

Go to shoe bank.com. See if AE has Corsico or 5th Avenue in your size. That’s their website for seconds.

leather soles
Not for me. I've had them and walking into a public restroom with them on when there's urine or remnants of some other liquid on the floor around the urinals disgusts me.

But, try Jack Erwin. They have leather sole dress shoes that are Blake or Goodyear constructed.

I recommend J Fitzpatrick. Recently got a pair on a whim and I'm really impressed with them.

I like them more than other similar brands around the same price point (Allen Edmonds, Grenson, Carmina, and even Alden).

Dress shoes should have leather soles.

One reason I like J&M Italian shoes is the crisp noise the leather soles make when walking.

Don't you hate when those beautiful soles get scuffed up and you can see where you stepped in moisture?

Got the AE Lax and Badlands in different colors. Rubber soles. Work very well.
