If you can afford it, I dont see the issue. But I do know people that never had money and came into some and started buying everything they wanted. Most ended up having to sell that stuff or losing it to the bank. Rich people dont stay rich by buying every single thing they want.

ETA just saw this and it's absolutely true in a lot of cases:

She thinks I’m becoming a different person and will always want bigger and more

Rather than blow that kind of money on a car you could save and retire sooner. I am with her.

Seriously, you have been doing well for a couple of years and you wanna drop 80k on a car?

Similar to mine. She mentioned she wanted a new house. I mentioned I wanted a BJ. Looks like we're getting a new house. Oh wait, that's nothing like yours.

Sounds like it isn’t just a new car or a new house.

What else have you been purchasing? Spending a lot of money in general?

Maybe its about going into debt? If you can build a new house and pay in cash, and get a new S-class without going into debt, I see no problem. If not, she simply does not want to be in debt.

I would tend to be on her side. Debt really scares some people.

Best answer yet.

Seriously, let me take a stab at this....in her mind:

You moving on to a bigger better house = moving on to a younger “better” woman.

Maybe you are? Maybe you need to reflect on that?

Are you active in your church? Who do want to be? Stuff fades fast, get away with just her for a weekend with the sole purpose of reconnecting and understanding each other (no kids)

You f’ed up when you said big house and you were getting an S class. You should have said big house, getting her an S class and maybe one for yourself if you like hers.

My wife is the same way. Thank God! Face it baw, she could be a money grubbing shopaholic whose happiness is based on her possessions. I’ve been married to that as well....it ain’t fun!

Maybe she has common sense and realizes a construction company can go under at the drop of a hat with a housing recession coupled with increased interest rates.

Squirrel away your money. Don’t buy the expensive car. Buy her a nice $1000 Louis Vuitton purse and buy the house. Make sure you can pay for the house on half of your current income.

No, we’ve been vacationing quite a bit, but that’s for her and the kids. The house is for her. I asked her if she wanted a big rock for our 15th and she said no. I would like an S63, but everything else is for her. It’s not about money somehow.

I currently drive a 2000 f350 with 250k miles on it which I just dropped 25k on in repairs and upgrades and plan on driving another 250k miles for work.

Baw....listen. You started a business a couple years ago. Things are great. Economy is booming. But guess what? Economy is going take a down turn. Times will get hard on your business. That's just part of owning your own business. Trust me!!! Hard times are coming and a new car and house aren't going to get you through hard times. There is a reason 80-90% of new business fail in the first 5 years.

I told her next year I’m going to build her a big arse house (we both agree we need a bigger house) and that I was getting an S-class. It started a fight.

She wanted a bigger house and is mad that you are building a big house?

Buy a 1 year old car with low miles, save a bundle.

It’s commercial construction in an industry that wasn’t affected by ‘08. I won’t say it’s recession proof, but it’s as close as it gets. I’m actually hoping for a recession so I can get some more land near Nashville for a fraction of what it costs now.

This is your problem.

The only way to correct it is to instead get a brand new King Ranch with a set of truck nuts.

She will appreciate your manliness.

Just get an E-Class. Are you that insecure that you need an S-Class to show the world that you're nouveau riche?

Your wife is right. Plus with you getting an S-Class and a McMansion there will be less liquidity for her during the divorce.

Or you could be a man and get a Charger Scat Pack save money and have a lot more fun.

Your trophy wife is probably out right now "discovering herself" with Jody.

Well what type of construction is it?

I own a fairly new construction company and it has taken off big time in the past two years and at no point have I ever thought it was recession proof.
