1 - location of a house is much more important than size (though you do want adequate size). Find a great neighborhood.

2- do you have the kids' present and future education covered?

3- make sure you have your insurance sufficient to take care of things in the event of a catastrophic health issue, or God forbid, your death.

Once you have those kinds of things covered and sufficient savings and investments, you can look at things like cars.

First, congratulations on the success of your company. I grew up poor as well and there’s nothing wrong with spoiling yourself once you reach a place in life that it doesn’t put you in a bind.

Not sure how you get her to come around. Maybe sit down and go over the finances and prove to her it’s not gonna set y’all back in any way. Good luck.

Dude if you make enough money in a month equal to the cost and interest of the amount of money an S63 would accrue until your retirement just tell your wife to shut the frick up

Best answer yet. Might just need some reassurance.

And get you a real nice truck instead of the s-class, you can write that off.

So two years in and you're going to start burning through the money? I've had nice cars and realized, they're just cars ultimately.

Nah dude she know what that S550 will bring! I have one and the women have walked up to the car while my wife was in it with me. Only to see her in the passenger seat and have to hit a u turn. The house she don't mind because that's her domain to subtle boast by having friends and family come over etc. On the other she know women will NEVER have the chance to enjoy that fruit of labor. Last but not least anything go wrong and that big house is hers kmsl

Well what type of construction is it?

Building dental offices for large chains. Construction wasn’t phased during ‘08, it was one of the first questions I asked. I guess people have to get their teeth done even if houses aren’t selling.

We’re on 60 acres now. If anything we’ll get a bigger plot. That idea also pissed her off.

Good deal. As long as storms keep coming, i'll be ok. Bad Louisiana weather has been pretty good to me.

Alright, if you're not content with 60 acres, I can she where she is coming from with the materialistic gripe.

Sounds like she doesn’t want to be new money. It’s inauthentic and ultimately unsatisfying to buy nice things to show that you have money. Communicate with her.

I didn’t come here for financial advice, I came to the ballers of the OT to help me manipulate my wife into someone who isn’t offended by nice things. I’m grateful that she wasn’t disgruntled during the hard times and didn’t spend me into the ground, but it’s time to shift gears.

No, we’ve been vacationing quite a bit, but that’s for her and the kids. The house is for her. I asked her if she wanted a big rock for our 15th and she said no. I would like an S63, but everything else is for her. It’s not about money somehow.

Are you trying to justify the big spending as dropping “well it’s for you”, even if she’s reluctant? That’d probably annoy the hell out of me too.

It honestly sounds like she’s trying to keep you from spending your arse off and putting the two of you deep into debt. Another house AND a car are big expenses.

You should start smaller. Make sure you have plenty in savings.

She wants the vacations. It’s the one thing she’s ok with. I’ve been reluctant, because to me, it’s like lighting the money on fire. That was my opinion. I’ve come around on the “making memories” argument.

Baw....listen. You started a business a couple years ago. Things are great. Economy is booming. But guess what? Economy is going take a down turn. Times will get hard on your business. That's just part of owning your own business. Trust me!!! Hard times are coming and a new car and house aren't going to get you through hard times. There is a reason 80-90% of new business fail in the first 5 years.

Another wise man.
