Absolutely worth it after looking at that list if only for the starring extension and 4-laning of nicholson all the way to the parish line. Throwing in the improvements to Old Hammond and I’m sold. This seems like a worthwhile tax.

Look at the list. They want to add a fricking roundabout on Highland Rd. at Pecue. I'm guessing this is because, in all of their wisdom, they approved a residential development exactly at that intersection.

No, it’s because Pecue is getting an interstate exit.

I'm always amazed that dems will always vote yes on higher taxes

I already saw work being done on that part of the interstate a couple of nights ago.

Don't know what it could have been, I go through there almost daily and they not doing much if anything to fix especially the west bound lanes.

Has worked stopped on that exit?
The mayor made a big show there, but nothing seems to be going on.

Every time she opens her mouth, St George moves closer and closer to reality.

It supposedly had something to do with funding. They might resume this fall.

If you look at the preliminary list of projects it totals over 900 million in our costs and over 1.1billion dollars when you put what seems to be state and/or federal match.

I wonder how she plans to pay for everything with just a 600 million dollar tax package?

No doubt some of these projects need to get done. But I'm definitely against increased taxes to get these done

Well then let's just magically make money appear out of thin air!

It was supposed to be funded with the gas tax, but the put it on hold when it failed. There was an article in the advocate a couple of weeks ago that said work is to resume this fall.

It is insane to think you need a BILLION dollars of local road improvements. BR ain't that big.

Some of these projects should have been completed 30 years ago though. The backlog is pretty big.

So this is an extension of the sales tax already in place or a new tax?

I saw that duration is 30 years.

I'm assuming it's a new tax. That's what THIS article says in the title.

WBRZ should be more specific on that.

Last year the proposal was for a property tax to take over the remainder of the green light stuff, then use the existing sales tax to fund sidewalks, hardscape, landscaping, and jogging trails.

I am curious if she is just extending the now 12 year old GL sales tax by 30 years from the date this passes or if she is adding this on top of it while letting the old tax expire on its own.

It’s a pretty key element to this discussion that local journalists have neglected to include in their write ups.

Get firm commitments from the feds or state to upgrade 10, 12, 110, 61, etc, and we can talk.

The biggest bottleneck is I-10 between the bridge and the 10/12 split. The state has neglected BR for a while, but they are finally borrowing money to fund that expansion.

So relief is coming....after about another year of planning and 4 painful years of construction.

That's about how much of this tax will actually go toward the roads.
