I do worry about my kids and what things will look like for them in the future. They are both girls. I can't exactly tell them to go be a lineman

People still are underestimating the degree to which AI will destroy white collar jobs.
Most people are unaware that "Middle Class" was a Post WW2 creation that had never been seen before, and will be extinct in a few decades.
We[re about to return to the historical norm of Rulers & Peasants.
Why do you think they want your guns ?

So many people think they are so different from those who waited outside the castle walls for a rotting cabbage to be tossed over to boil with the kings rabbit they stole. Retirement, leisure, “wealth” for the common man..all bought off the backs of future generations…it was never sustainable.

I think the AI stuff is overblown. I think the day will come, but I think people are way too eager to say it’s gonna be soon.
There’s been articles recently about an AI “blackmailing” people on simulations.
The articles are written as if the AI is self aware. People accepted that blindly as they discussed the article.
They accept AI returning web search results as if it has read, processed, and deciphered truth from fiction.
People are bowing down to AI already. It is very, very dangerous.

I am in healthcare consulting. Data processing may be becoming more automated but critical thinking on how to apply the results will continue to elevate in demand. Hell I need people who understand how to apply the data to drive performance improvement for partners right now.

They literally can but no one would want a robot flying them around

Kansas certainly provides cheap land and housing which could allow for an early retirement.
Well played my friend IF you were referring to the classic song like the earlier poster.

I’m not in your industry but am somewhat attached and wherever AI is used there has to be humans attached to it that knows the data, can guide the AI to capture what is needed and to verify/scrub what is gathered into a useful format. Also, healthcare data is at the top of the list for a number of companies, providers, insurers, employers, govt, etc.
I would think your background would be very valuable at this time. It’s one thing to say “we’re going to use AI to determine the health cost drivers for our employees” or “we’re going to use AI to drive down medical costs” but it’s a whole different thing to know what that means and how to make it work. That data is stored all over the place in multiple formats with limited accessibility.
ETA: market yourself as an expert in healthcare databases and how they’re configured so you can work with AI to locate and pull the wanted information that is in an accurate and actionable format.

Not many high school sports writers left out there.
There are many more photographers and videographers.

I was in India a few years ago and was amazed at the at the number large new tech schools springing up across the country. My driver, a retired army guy, expressed the opinion that the schools were mostly a scam that promised jobs, taught little and locked students into predatory loans.
So yes, the relatively competent pool of Indian tech workers of the late 1990's has been swamped by people whose incompetence came at a high price.

It’s strange to think that so many tech employees that have historically been in-demand are being absorbed. Their ‘computer’ degrees will very soon be no more valuable than an art or social work degree. It’ll be no more than a piece of paper showing that the holder completed some classes that are unlikely related to the job for which they’re applying.
I was hoping to work 8 more years, but it’s doubtful I’ll be able to outrun AI that much longer. This must be how Cotton Gin techs felt around 1865.
Unless some completely new field of employment opens up, we will have no choice except to have some form of UBI.
Man, I don't believe any of that. It's been 3-4 years since so-called AI was able to pass the coding exercise my employer uses to screen prospective developers, but I've seen no evidence that this is anything more than a neat trick. What economic value has AI actually generated? A shitty Willy Wonka event in Scotland?
The AI bubble will burst, and meanwhile everyone's reading crap like what you wrote and avoiding learning software development. That's going to tighten the supply of developers significantly, and raise wages. Senior database developers will be making $250,000 / year in the foreseeable future.
