Where better to turn for insight and wisdom than the brilliant minds on TD ?

What insight are you looking for? Sounds like you made your decision.

FWIW I agree that getting the state involved in your relationship is a terrible decision for most men. I just have no idea what you expected from this thread lol. There's no questions posed, you just kinda told us your story and let it hang.

If you have no interest in marriage, why keep a chick around long enough that they start thinking marriage is on the table? Surely you aren’t so stupid that you had no idea this was coming, right? Seems like a dick move.

See I can't bring myself to agree with this. Why do women suddenly have no agency in this situation? If they're adults and they expect a legally binding commitment like marriage from someone, isn't it on them to be upfront about what they want and to take matters into their own hands (like OP's girl apparently is, via breaking up) if the man isn't interested? Why is it the man's responsibility to look out for the woman's interests if the two don't align?

Why are you even with her if you are afraid she’ll take half your shite? Stop being a pussy and either break it off or man up.

You sound like an a-hole. Hope she moves on and finds someone better.

I don’t know if you are trolling but I like the story. Especially the last part that you ran the numbers and it was cheaper to break up now

She’s only entitled to 1/2 of everything from marriage on. Nothing you owned before (unless making payments after I do’s) is she entitled to. She also can not get 1/2 of any inheritance

Ask me how I know my ex tried all that but nope nada only items acquired during the marriage

I’m not reading all this , but she won’t get half of your current assets like you claim. She’s only entitled to half of community assets ( IE after y’all got married).

But look at all the comments. What a gold digging bitch! Dump her! That’s what women get for being direct about their needs. At least from incel types.

Your username implies you're from Bossier. Most people get married by 30 to 35. Most people from Bossier do not get finance degrees from UT and go into Investment Banking. Most go into blue collar jobs. I'm from South Highlands in Shreveport, I've seen it from virtually every Bossier person I've met. So let's do the math.

Start work at 22, now 27, so 5 years of work, at say $50-60k a year. After taxes, living, rent, etc, take home $10k. 10k times 5 years is $50k. It's not gonna be the end of the world if you're out $25k.

My dad gave the best advice on this subject. Men want sex, women want security. If both parties understand their roles it goes a lot easier.

You should probably talk to a therapist. Making shite up like that online isn’t healthy.

I wouldn't get married in this day. Women have no compromise anymore. I especially wouldn't marry one who gave me an ultimatum. You'd get that your entire marriage with her. Nope.

I see it with young women in my family (no pics). The man they are looking for doesn't exist & I tried to tell them. High standards are one thing, but be reasonable.

How old are you and how old is she? Depending on the answer my response changes.
