My FIL's view on the Troy Middleton thing floored me.

My father-in-law is a retired engineer in his 80's. Went to LSU in the 50's when Middleton was president. Worked on the Saturn V rocket in Huntsville in the 60's. He raised 5 kids who went to LSU and he has taught there as adjunct faculty a couple of times. Very straight arrow guy, never gets riled up.
He was planning on leaving some money to the engineering school when he dies. When he heard about them taking Middleton's name off the library, he said (direct quote), "frick those guys. They're never getting another dime out of me."
I think there are a lot more of him out there.

I know three guys who write 5 figure checks every year, two out of the three said "no more", have not talked to the other one yet, I presume he will say the same thing.

My first thought when I heard they were removing the name from the library was: Don't they care about how many donations are going to disappear in the difficult financial times we are in? It seems they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. This thing should have been thought out and handled better, IMO.
