ATLANTA, Ga. - The Georgia Supreme Court has overturned the murder conviction of the Atlanta father who left his 22-month-old son in a hot car while he was at work, resulting in the child’s death.

Justin Ross Harris, 41, left his son named Cooper in his car in June 2014. Harris was supposed to drop his son off at daycare on the way to his job at Home Depot but did not do so.

Cooper was discovered seven hours later in the back seat of his father’s car outside his office in Atlanta. The temperatures that day was in the 80s.

Harris claimed it was an accident and blamed sleep deprivation. Prosecutors claimed that Harris wanted to get out of his marriage because he wanted to have sex with as many women as possible. Harris reportedly had exchanged sexual text messages with multiple women on the day his son died. One of the text exchanges was with a 16-year-old.

He was convicted of malice murder, cruelty to children and criminal attempt to commit a felony in 2016. Harris was sentenced to life without parole as well as 32 additional years for other crimes.

Harris filed an appeal for the murder conviction earlier this year. The Georgia Supreme Court released its decision on Wednesday. Harris has not challenged his convictions for the sexual crimes he committed.

If I remember correctly he googled “How long does it take a dog to die in a hot car” a day or two before leaving his kid in a hot car.

I wonder if the divorce judge would go for that.

"You see, your honor, I just want to bang as many chicks as possible. We good?"

I sure as hell hope this was an accident, because if he wanted out of the marriage, killing the son has nothing to do with that. This kinda shite makes me think about my boy and makes me want to cry.

ETA: I don't remember this story, but if this is true:

..then give him the death penalty. Swiftly.

The terrible article it doesn't give the reason for overturning it.

Just coming here to post this. There was a huge thread on this board during that time. I tried searching it and I couldn't find it.

Don't think so.

The guy was a piece of crap for running around on his wife, but his child's death was an accident. Prosecutor just used the extramarital affairs as the basis for the case.

Respect the game but you don’t have to kill your son and get divorced to have sex with as many women as possible.

If true, then that’s 100% intent in my mind, and the guy should rot in prison

What an awful way to die. Very slow and agonizing.

I have a 23 month old daughter and reading this, I can't help but seeing her face in that car and hearing her scream until the light goes out. If it were me and it was an accident, I may just be content to rot in prison if I didn't take my own life first. I may only appeal if I had done it on purpose and was remorseless.

I'm betting you posted on the original thread from back then. It was a big topic at the time.

He also googled, "How to survive in prison"

Justin Ross Harris' conviction for murder and other crimes related to the death of his toddler son, Cooper, was reversed because the jury “heard and saw an extensive amount of improperly admitted evidence.”

Disregard, why was it initially reported that the investigation found that he and his wife did search for child car deaths, but then at trial it amounted to nothing? Could they not prove the husband searched for it?

When my kids were little I put a big neon pink sticker on my driver window. It looked dumb as frick but seeing it always made me think why I put it there , which was to check to see if I had a kid in the car.

On what grounds was it overturned?

Pretty sure he did. Also googled how to survive in prison. I could be mistaken. It was a long time ago.

The dude went to his car during lunchtime and grabbed something out of it, his kid was still in his carseat trapped.

I would like to see the original thread on this.

This guy should have already been executed. He researched how long it would take a child to die from being left in a hot car just a day or two before he did it. Sort of disappointed that prison justice hasn't been handed out to him yet considering he was also trying to molest a teenager. GA inmates appear to be getting soft.

Yup, I could never kill myself, but losing my son would be the biggest thing that would make me consider suicide. And if it was due to negligence on my part, that would only push me further into wanting to. I can't imagine.
