Kroger? You mean Mac's and Brookeshire's?

Also, good for you! So much less traffic.

Did you end up moving to Houma?

What made your childhood in Pineville better than your childhood in Houma?

The old Cowboy Town building is a Lowes distribution warehouse. Amazon built a warehouse just south of it recently.

I am in pretty much the same situation as you…grew up in Ellick and pondering on moving back there to take care of aging relatives…..CenLa is home to me.

All of my family went to Menard, so I can’t help much as far as the school system goes.

When I am there, I typically grocery shop at Kroger, Albertsons or Sam’s. There is also a neighborhood Walmart on Jackson street that is good. Super 1 is also a surprisingly nice store and you can get some great prices.

I also got some sweet corn at Matthew’s Produce, which was stellar. That’s not a farmers market in the strict sense…but you can look it up and see what it is.

As far as restaurants go, there is the normal array of restaurants that you would expect in a town of that size. If you demand fine dining 5 nights per week, that might not be the place for you! However, I can always find food that satisfies me.

Alexandria was a great place to grow up. My mom still lives there. I went the prompt succor/Menard route. Both schools were good. I think Prompt Succor has gotten better, unfortunately i haven't heard the same thing about Menard.

Overall, alot of good people call Alexandria home. Not saying I would move back though. Good luck to you and your family.

Reading this thread gave me an old nostalgic feeling. I went to Brame and ASH from 81-87, left town mid-summer of '87. Only went back a couple times and last time was 94ish.
Ellick was a great place to grow up back then. Even in 94, you saw it was different and getting worse.

I would move back if I could find a nice place on Kincaid or Cotile. Other than that, prolly not.

Going to be a comprehensive quality of life downgrade across the board from where you’re coming from. Just keeping it real. But what I will tell you about CenLa is you will meet some of the best, friendliest, most salt of the earth people you will ever meet.

We wouldn't be doing if that were true We are moving from a city to 30 acres with a pond. The house also has a pool (the main thing my kids are excited about). The property is surrounded by Kisatchie on 3 sides. Our only neighbors will be my parents.

Its a downgrade from an amenities perspective, sure, but I'm hoping myself and my family can find peace and enjoyment of the simple country life. A little pond fishing. A big garden. Spending quality time with Mawmaw and pawpaw.

Cotile/Gardner area

Spent much of my youth fishing Cotile. We had a fishing camp on the lake. It was really an old single wide mobile home, but it was great for weekend fishing trips.

Always loved the reservoirs around Ellick. Cotile and Kincaid for fishing, Indian Creek for skiing and later on, drinking and womanizing.

It’s the best time to buy in CenLa right now. It’s not talked about much, but it’s ranked 3rd in gdp growth the past 5 years. There’s area is always derided but it’s coming around.

There’s a new data center coming which includes a ton of invested money, a metric ton, of probably $7 billion total after it’s all said and done.

They are revitalizing various corridors. There is business investment coming.

I mean, it’s come a long way. Diamond Grill is the best restaurant. It’s never going to be Lafayette, but CenLa can become its own thing.

Is Finnegan's Wake still downtown? That was my hangout when me and the wife were dating.

Is there a decent local coffee shop? I WFH, but sometimes I need a place to post up for a few hours away from the house.
