“Alexandria has Cabrini Hospital which is part of the CHRISTUS network of hospitals and Rapides regional hospital. Both are top notch.”
Used to be top notch. The quality of care has gone down significantly.
The only bright spot is orthopedics, there are some very good orthopedists. Are some very good opthalmologists and ENT’s also.
All the other specialties, the Drs. are aging out and don’t seem to be able to attract younger specialists to take their place.
Another huge issue is there is a serious shortage of nurses,I’m talking serious.
It’s not unusual for pts.to lay on stretchers in the E.R.for 24-48 hours waiting to get a bed due to shortage of nurses to take care of them.
Many of the pts.end up being shipped out of town to other hospitals that will accept them.
Lafayette and Baton Rouge are doing much better for specialists and nurses.More and more pts.are going to Lafayette which is not a long drive but it is a burden for families if their family members is in the hospital.
Baton Rouge,I can’t quite understand why they seem to be in such good shape for Drs.and nurses. The traffic issue is so horrendous I couldn’t live there.Maybe LSU football and Saints not too far away helps B.R.
Wouldn’t work for me,I don’t give 2 shits about football but lots of people love it.
Wherever you move,good luck.
Woodworth would be my first choice,Pineville would be second.

CenLa is not a terrible place to live. I don't love it here, but I don't hate it. I probably wouldn't move anywhere else in Louisiana from here outside of maybe the Covington/Mandeville area.
Under no circumstances would I live in Alexandria. Crime is rampant. Bolton is engulfed by ghetto if that matters to you. They've had lockdowns from shots being fired in the area multiple times. ASH and Menard are good high schools and in much better areas of town. Grace Christian and Country Day are good private schools from what I can tell. I don't have kids.
Woodworth is the best place to reside around here. There is a relatively new junior high school there. With that said there aren't any restaurants. There is a pretty nice little grocery market there though. It's a growing area.
Pineville isn't bad. Much better than Alexandria. It has good public schools like JI Barron and Pineville High. I like living in a rural community, so I have a place between Pineville and Deville.
Alexandria has an Albertsons and a Kroger. The Kroger is the best grocery store in the area. Alex and Pineville both have Wal-Mart Markets, which I prefer for convenience. Pineville has a couple of Super 1s and obviously a super Wal-Mart if you want to fight that.
Spirits is probably the best all-around locally-owned restaurant. Quebedeaux's is a good cajun-type restaurant in Pineville. Kohl's in Alex is a really good BBQ place where you can get a steak. Caefuego is a great newly-opened Mexican restaurant. The rest of the Mexican places are pretty average at best. Diamond Grill downtown is an upscale place. Wildwood Pizza is great! There is a great breakfast place in Alexandria called LeBistreaux. The Cottage and Word of Mouth are good lunch spots.
There are a good many chain restaurants in Alex. Texas Roadhouse, Walkons, Outback, new Olive Garden, etc.

FWIW Bolton has a long established record of haplessness in football. They may have even dropped it by now.
Spirits is a pretty good steak and seafood place. They have live music sometimes.

We are interested in Bolton, now that it is a Magnet school. Both of my kids are currently in the Magnet program in Caddo and its been great. Does anyone have kids or opinions on the new Bolton? If not Bolton, are the private options still only Grace Christian or Menard

We won't be living in Alexandria.
So where are you going? Pineville?

Grocery stores: Where do you guys buy groceries? Kroger?
Kroger. Albertsons for meat and seafood. Quebedeaux’s has specialty meats and Juneau’s in Marksville is a short drive.

I wouldn’t mind living out on 28 heading west.
Ellick is now home to 2 whataburgers.

I left in 2019, moved to BR. None of my kids came back after college. I really miss all the hunting and fishing w AlxTgr, and the beer drinking, but my family was all in BR. ACDS is always great thru 8th grade, but so is Nachman, which is free.2/3 of my kids went to ASH and played soccer. No problems there. Last kid went to Menard, for sports, I hate to admit. She was a good XC and track athlete, plus soccer was better there. You’ll do fine. Maybe you can become Alex’s new hunting partner.

my one positive is that, if there is any growth in Alex, it is happening towards 28W, which is a good thing for us
if they would build a Super Target that way my wife would be very happy

I wouldn’t mind that at all. I’ve been lobbying for a Rouses for a while now

Yeah, that area seemed like it had some potential. As in, one of the least shitty areas of Alex. A few nice neighborhoods on that side.

Could not imagine moving back.
Last time I cut it through Mac Arthur drive it looked like Mogadishu.
AlexT needs to run for mayor and clean Ellick up.

Questions for the Cenla People...
Back in the 90's early 2000s I use to fish Lake Fork in Texas a lot... Would pass through Alec and just North of the city someone built this huge complex called "Cowboy Town" or something like that, but it seemed to never open or if it did, it wasn't for long.
What the hell was it, and what happened to it?

It was supposed to host rodeos, concerts, etc and have shopping. It failed miserably.
Pretty sure it is a Lowes distribution warehouse now.

Yeah, someone lost some serious cheese on that investment. I don't remember it really being a thing for very long.

Well that sucks... Crazy, I remember it seemed like it was huge....
Sounded like poor planning or zero publicity...

About 6 of my old co-workers are working at what they call the transfer center for Cabrini. That’s all they do is arrange transfer of pts.to other hospitals.
They tell me they transfer an average of 100 pts a week, are they lying?
The transfer center is located in strip mall next to WalMart on 28-W.Go check it out.
I did,8 or 9 cubicles with a computer and phone in each cubicle. Also has a supervisor.Blew my mind to tell the truth.
Is 100 a week an exaggeration? Possibly but with what all is there it’s more than just a few.
When I was working there wasn’t a dedicated transfer nurse.Someone in nursing office would arrange transfer of pt’s when needed, wasn’t that often.
Occasionally ICU would be on diversion that we couldn’t accept pts.but it wasn’t that often.

I love CenLa, if you are outside of any city. Living in the middle of nowhere is great. You plan your grocery trip when you go to town and there is a DG everywhere.
