If you are too stupid to know that Orange County is republican, stay in Texas and make half. Also your story is probably fake.

I really like OC

Go to Anaheim and Irvine for work all the time. Much more laid back than LA county

You could do worse

I would move to California in a second.
Probably will when I retire

beaches, mountains, deserts, forests
legal weed
perfect weather year round
small towns, vineyards, national parks, world class cities and international airports

there’s a reason there’s a California dream

The kids will come around, they just have a hard time leaving their friends. But most of the time they adapt well to new surroundings. The exception may be if you have teenagers who are already in high school.

I’m going through the same thing right now, but not to California, I’d never move there.

Same. I get it, it’s a blue state but move to a red city and pay attention to local elections.

My buddy lives off the 5 in Irvine. He can be in San Diego in 75 minutes or Big Bear. Beach in 20-25. Low humidity and sun all year. Oh the horror

Do some legit math based on cost of living, taxes, insurance, housing, and any other data you can find. That 2x salary is not nearly 2x. It may be about 1.25x.

We don't know the OP's situation and expectations so its hard to say for sure, but It's probably more like a 50% pay increase + living in a Mediterranean climate.

Biden won OC by 10%. It's one election but I'd hardly call that a Republican stronghold

Wife is an accountant. She can wfh per her company. Biggest thing is the rental property we have; I’d sell so as to not to have to manage it. My kids are probably the biggest consideration. They are 7 and 5 and are doing great. The older one is shy and just recently got his social confidence up. That is probably my biggest issue; this is a bad move for him

This isn't 1960. OC is nowhere near as GOP as it used to be. It's been trending Dem at least since Loretta Sanchez beat Bob Dornan.

Lot of Republicans in California. The mayor or Anaheim is Republican. Low crime, great weather. 16 murders last year and lower crime than the average for the entire state. Anaheim is better than many places in Louisiana.

For twice the money are you considering taxes in the equation and still double the money? You are going from 0% state income tax to likely 9.3% income tax.

Do you like kale?

Do you like bars with one shitty beer but 1,000 different $25 cocktails?

Do you like traffic?

Do you like being far, far away from people who give even one iota about college sports?
