No they still own that land. My step kids grew up in the mormon church here in hattiesburg. The only two Billionaires are Mormun the Duffs. They are super nice and keep to themselves. Let them buy it all

What do you think of this? I actually trust the Mormon Church to keep that land useful for agriculture more than I trust China or even Bill Gates.
All 3 are just as corrupt.

Church Tax Shelters + Ag Exemptions = money laundering machine

I'm totally ok with them buying it up. They take good care of it, and allow people like me to use it for a pretty light fee. Somebody has to own it and the hillbillies around here can't afford it and won't be good stewards

I have no issue w/this.
They'll know how to use it.

I just seen finished reading the book lights out, which is a nonfiction book about a theoretical cyber attack on the power grid. One chapter speaks about the Mormons and all of the prep work they have. They own everything from the farmland to the distribution trucking company. It is spread out throughout the US and Canada.

Religions need to pay taxes. Change my mind.
Think of all the taxes we as private citizens subsidize because of stuff like this.

Not sure it explains all of the land holdings, but the Church operates a lot of farms to supply commodities to support its humanitarian programs. In addition to the farms they own and operate numerous processing plants that make various food products that are distributed to those in need.

Processing Plants: The Church operates processing plants throughout the U.S. and Canada. These facilities package and bottle food grown on Church-owned farms. They also process other commodities such as soaps and detergents. All of these goods are distributed to bishops’ storehouses, and many are available at home storage centers.

I'm good with it. I don't buy into their religion, but every Mormon baw I've ever met is good people. Much rather them than Blackrock or whatever fund or the Chinamen.

They'll use it to make money for the church now. If things get dicey, they'll use it to feed Mormons.

Tell me how you got there and don't repeat this

Because it makes no sense.
A quick google search shows the LDS church spent $1 billion on humanitarian aid last year alone and they are extremely efficient as the vast majority of the boots on the ground are unpaid volunteers. Why would you want to curtail that by funnelling some of their money through the governement which is at the extreme other end of the efficiency spectrum?
There are certainly churches and preachers that are using the non-profit designation to get rich and live lavish lifestyles, but the Mormons don't have paid preachers and are almost entirely volunteers. Pound for pound, I believe I read they are the most charitable religion and have by far the lowest overhead, meaning more money goes to those in need.
The government wouldn't need personal income tax if they were fiscally responsible. Your problem is with government waste, not true charitable organizations.

I don’t trust any large organization to do the right thing, ever

If anyone other than the farmers owns land in the country I would prefer it be Mormons instead of China

I know they bought an absolutely gargantuan amount of acreage in the Florida Panhandle several years ago for what is supposed to be one of the largest cattle ranches in the US.

I know someone that leases a lot of it, the church is a great steward of the land. We hunted a chunk of the 147k acres near Paducah in Texas and they were very conservative for both hunting and cattle. The propertywas incredible. I was offered access to the Nebraska land, but couldn’t justify the 20 hour one way drive. The Nebraska property is 325k acres
