Good get rid of all liberal arts majors and only leave enough curriculum in those sections for electives for STEM majors.

They need to fricking change the state constitution on budget cuts.

Only cutting Higher Ed and Healthcare every year is ridiculous.

They should cut higher ed every single year until there is only one school remaining on state dollars. The only school that should be receiving state money is Louisiana State University Agricultural and Mechanical College in Baton Rouge.

So get rid of the university part of the university to become a vocational school?

Yeah but our new governor is about to raise taxes on us all so LSU and the rest of the state can piss it away.

You do realize before the proposed upgrades to the REC, LSU was dead last in student recreation facilities in the SEC? Nah you probably didn't.

no it isn't. these are two of the biggest black holes in the state's finances. I wish they would gut both and fund them at $0 for the year, thereby making them get their financial shite together.

YES!
And get a politician with a spine and lead a charge to do whatever necessary to change the whole fcking system of higher ed. Do away with multiple boards running different colleges. And good god, shut down at least three universities.
Start with SUNO then close a non-black one to keep the race baiter somewhat pacified.

Cuts needed to happen and of course all gov. related functions could stand to be ran better, but all we are doing with this strategy is making each college worse. LSU is really becoming a joke these days.
UNO, which wasn't a horrible school is also a pathetic places these days since they decided to just let it sink.

This isn't the poli board but it really is time to rewrite the state constitution. I mean we have had 11 rewrites in our history already. Maybe v12 can eliminate all of the protections afforded to various departments and provide flexibility to cut spending across the board.

Legislators won't make the required changes to the budget process because they don't want to make hard decisions on what to cut. They enjoy the handcuffs of higher ed and healthcare cuts because they believe it takes them off the hook. Louisiana politics for you.

Also, the governor is fretting about the budget while he is expanding medicaid. Must not be that dire of a situation if he can spend the money to expand it now and incur all of those future liabilities. Just the groundwork for more state taxes being laid.

While I certainly agree, higher education in this state is unnecessary bloated despite the woe-is-me bellyaching from the university presidents. Most of the "outrage" comes from the fact that for one of the first times in their lives, the presidents are having to use some discretion in their operations and can't just spend other people's money at their whimsy.

Higher Ed and Heathcare shouldn't have to bear all of the spending cuts, but there is certainly a lot of fat that can be trimmed.

Us oilfield baws and our truck nutz could care less. Lol. As long as we have kinesiology and a football program it's all good. Can't wait until the oilfield royalties really hit rock bottom so they can cut all those liberal pansy arse programs.
