I'm not sure what the OT's opinion is on professor salaries, but that is one of the more lucrative jobs available to someone with the proper education. A doctorate nets you more than $100k a year for a standard schedule in many places.
That being said, the professors making the most money are usually the professors in the most influential/important fields - STEM and business.

People that are from LA and/or went to LSU understand the worst thing you can do in this state is give money to a government program/institution. Until LSU can prove to be a good steward of your money, why should you give them any?

It's pretty pathetic how poorly this state is run.

At least at UNO, you can allocate your donations for one specific department or purpose. If you do so, they cannot be lumped into the general fund

LSU and higher education has been cut too much over the last eight years. It is time to fix the problem.
Posted on 1/22/16 at 1:00 pm to slackster
Why doesn't the state just cut TOPS? I wonder how much goes to kids that just flunk out anyways.

Good get rid of all liberal arts majors and only leave enough curriculum in those sections for electives for STEM majors.

I don't know. I'm not really sure TOPS is doing the state much good considering it was intended to stop the "brain-drain" yet here we are with an oilfield downturn and LA's economy headed straight into the shitter.

Like the Journalism prof, making 6 figures to blog about how mu h the Football costs. Teaching 2 classes, so he can comment and run around the country while a GA does his work.
As we a Cassidy, who I voted for, making $115k for parttiime teaching?
LSU hemmoraghes money as politi al patronage.

Do a little research. Their budgets have all either been stagnant, or in the case of LSU, increased like $50MM over the past 5 years

Maybe they will cut the lazy river
Money for this project came from the student recreation fees. Supposedly it's not money that could be shifted to fill gaps in LSU's overall budget.
The lazy river gets a bad wrap, but it's part of the renovation for a very undersized student recreation center.

Good thing we didn't fire Les Miles and have to pay his buyout, on top of Jimbo's buyout and new contract.
Dodged a bullet there F.King Alexander.
and just to be clear, i would assume that since his name is always written out as F.King Alexander, i am supposed to pronounce it fricking alexander.

They will if F King has anything to say about it.
He has demonstrated that he is more concerned with public perception and politics than anything else.
Meanwhile, rival schools see the value in openly keeping separate, in the publics eye, the success of the football program as well as the whole AD. THEY brag about how much money their Atheletic Department brings to the University.
While LSU wants to keep it all on the Down Low to give the legislature and the public the impression that LSU needs more or as much public funding as possible.
F King is an Academic and not real business savvy. I for one can't wait to see him exit LSU stage left.

This is such an incredibly dumb statement. So because we are last in the SEC in some stupid category we have to do millions worth of upgrades including a lazy fricking river. By doing that we have to cut more school funds. I'm sure parents don't care about johnnys Econ class as long as he's got a sweet gym to ball in and a river to relax from the long day
The renovations to the REC were funded by an increase in student fees that the students voted for.

Stupid category? These things attract students which brings in more money. Same with better athletic facilities for teams that lose us money. LSU is doing upgrades across the whole campus but you are going to complain about something that is becoming a requirement for most universities. Brand new book store, parking garage, new dorms, renovation of old ones, new dining facilities, but got forbid they try and help the students improve their overall health and well being...all while increasing the fees each year to help cover the costs.
Mizzou, Texas, fricking Akron, Auburn, Colorado State, Maryland, Ga Tech, Cal State, Colorado, Maine, Iowa, UVA, UF, Texas Tech, Toledo, Missouri St., etc.
All of these and more have either a lazy river, insane leisure pool, water slides and similar amenities you are complaining about.
Actually do some research
Quit bitching about upgrades to the University which the students are footing much more of the bill than previous. Worry about the government and administration not handling funds properly.
Before now that Rec Center had not been upgraded or improved since it was built. It was pitiful to say the least.

Digging around from when the Huffington post blasted LSU for this, it would be illegal to reallocate that money for several reasons.
1) It was already voted on by the students as it is their money to spend because
2) the money comes out of the student's UREC fees which are not directly tied to the taxpayers Higher Ed contributions.

You think the endowment should be used to pay operational expenses?
