The average millennial spends an incredible $1,300 on summer socializing alone according to new data.

A new survey of 2,000 millennials profiled the social calendars, spending and summer adventures typically experienced — with four family events, three nights out with friends, two weekend brunches and at least one wedding the norm.

The nerve of millennials.
Wanting to spend some of their own money enjoying their lives when the weather is nice.
Shameful.

I spend a lot more than that, tbh.

Looks like a Spirit airlines ticket.
To the articles point, doesn't everyone do this?

Are those numbers any different than generations past?
That doesn't look out of the ordinary to me (given adjustment for inflation, of course)

Where are they getting the money to do this?

That doesn't seem like "huge" money as long as someone is employed

That's it?
ETA: They say $100 a week like that's some sort of ridiculous number. Do people not spend $100 a week on some form of socializing? Dining out, going to a bar, hanging out with friends for some sort of sporting event, etc...

I know it is shocking to a lot of people, but most millennials do work.

Don't most people, regardless of age, have more active social lives in the summer? More vacations and trips and get-togethers?

Wow, millenials spend money on doing stuff, especially when the weather is nicer?
That generation may very well be the one that upends it all!

The common observation that I read in articles is that spending on social interaction (dining, hanging out with friends, trips) is up in this generation over previous generations. For example, I believe spending for millennials on dining out outpaced groceries for the first time ever this past year.
Material possession spending is supposedly down.
That broadly seems to define myself and the people I know, relatively speaking, but I can't speak for 50 million people.
