The common observation that I read in articles is that spending on social interaction (dining, hanging out with friends, trips) is up in this generation over previous generations. For example, I believe spending for millennials on dining out outpaced groceries for the first time ever this past year.

Material possession spending is supposedly down.

That broadly seems to define myself and the people I know, relatively speaking, but I can't speak for 50 million people.

I concur. Just about everything I witnessed and read indicates that millennials value "experiences" over material wealth. As much shite as I give millennials this is really refreshing and gives me some hope for the future as previous generations patted themselves on the back for "working hard" and never seeing their kids or spending time with their family because they were "providing". What good is "provding"(showering your wife and kids with a bunch of useless chinese crap) if youre never there to enjoy it with them? Meanwhile the kids were raising themselves and the country was falling apart as a result. If Im not mistaken divorce rate and single parent households are way down among Millennials when compared to Boomers.

then stop bitching about "low income" jobs and not being able to afford housing or healthcare.

I don't ever remember doing that. My company offers great healthcare benefits, and I pay my rent every month like clockwork despite living in the 3rd most expensive real estate market in the country.

I make a good living, so does my wife. And we'll spend our extra income however we see fit.

frick off grandpa.

apparently they didn't teach reading comprehension with that ethnic studies major. did you bitch about your healthcare/housing costs? if not, then good for you. my comments obviously don't apply to you. too bad it can't be said for most people of your generation.

If you make such great money, why do choose to pay rent?

First, I said I made good money, I didn't say I was an OT baller.

Second, we don't know how much longer we want to live in this city, so rather than plant roots we'd prefer to have a little more flexibility.

Third, the average cost of a 1-bedroom apartment is roughly $500k, and if I'm buying I would definitely want more than a 1-bedroom. And as I said I don't claim to be an OT baller.

No they didn't. Reading is hard so I just complained that tests were racist and they gave me an A and a trophy. College was so easy.

And how did you know what I majored in? Stalk much?

I don't want to pay a stupid amount of money for a house that isn't worth it and I'm not buying a house in the suburbs and driving through traffic every day. The Dallas market is stupid. Houses have offers within days for at or above list. Buying is a nightmare and most new builds are in the burbs.

The biggest is probably because my wife and I have jobs and potential promotions that could take us out of state within the next 3 or so years. If I don't have to buy a house in DFW, I don't want to.

And dealt with dial-up internet and google not being the primary resource. There's a sub-set of us born from 1983-88/89 that aren't really identifiable by Gen X or Millennials.

Finally the group I fit into

I was in 7th grade for 9/11 but I do remember it vividly.. and I had all of the dial-up struggles, using netscape navigator and altavista for searching.

That's just it. They are not spending their money in most cases. They are getting propped up by their parents, and anything they make is for their personal use. Man buns, beards, burning man, or whatever else they feel like blowing "their" money on; while bitching about student loans, and the fact that the real world is not kosher with their lifestyle. Mellinials suck arse. Thy don't even know what sex they want to be.

All you snowflake millennials that down vote me let me know. Make a post that says I down voted bio!!!

Facts aren't necessary! He's seen the memes on Facebook and saw that clip on Fox News! Millennials don't have their own money and expect the world to give them everything!
