Again, Gen X here but prior to my generation women were more or less taught that their main goal in life was to be a wife and mother. To do either usually meant having a husband. Most Gen X women also heard an awful lot of that growing up but did have other, still limited opportunities. This social expectation meant even the ugliest, fattest, no shower taking a-hole could lure some old girl into a lifetime commitment because that was about as good as it gets. This ain't the case anymore....men are largely superfluous for anything other than sex and most of them ain't very good at that....I wouldn't swap places with my 26 year old son for any reason other than to hopefully add 34 years to my life but as far as romance and marriage I don't know how they navigate it. I do think that many women in that age will, in their 30s, realize they are missing out on a major part of human existence but many will find it too late and the pickings too slim.....

"Women like nice guys."
"Go in and hand them a resume and give them a firm handshake."
"Having a degree will guarantee success."

Boomer: I got a good deal for cable. Cable TV, phone & internet for $400 a month.

Gen Z: You could just stream what you want for a fraction of that.

Boomer: I don’t know how to do that.

Boomer: Y’all don’t need a $1,000 iPhone.

The 70s and early 80s would like a word to discuss 20% interest rates, oil embargoes, and rampant inflation.

Where do you people meet these people? A lot of this advice is pretty ridiculous.

Your uncle was actually right, to a point.

You do have to be persistent, especially for the big wins.

Probably good advice though. Old people are wise.

You laugh but Fareplay has another open thread asking about taking not one, but two 2 week vacations this year.

I'm sure there will be another thread in his near future complaining because he can't afford to buy a house and blaming the Boomers!

Nah. There's a lot of variables that are contributing that hard work alone isn't going to get it done. - For Millennials they've now lived through multiple recessions. - Wage stagnation - The cost of a college degree (that Boomers determined were "required") - Jobs that a Boomer could enter with no work experience/no degree with paid on-site job training now requires a 4 year degree and to pay for your own training out of pocket. - Nothing keeping up with the cost of living in most areas. Of course these are the same folks that said if you don't buy avocado toast you can afford a house.

Again you’re a giant puss and being extremely short sighted. Weak men like you and everyone upvoting is why we’re in the state of the country. Nothing beats honesty, drive, and hard work.

Yeah some are luckier than others. It’ll always be that way.

Millennials are in their mid-30s to early 40s, trying to raise families, while being told that they're not doing enough by geriatrics.

They do not have the institutional power that you're suggesting. They're funding your SS, while being told that they have to import infinity third worlders. Congress has been dominated by boomers for at least 25 years.

Millennials are not the reason the country is falling apart. They were dealt a shitty hand, and while trying to play it, they're told they're just shitty players.

Christ, so many losers on here. If you’re mid 30s. We’ve had an incredible stock market and 2% interest rates. Whose fault is that you’re still broke?

Well, that is probably not all that bad advice. If you want to work at a company, why wouldn’t you just walk in and ask?

Cut out the step where some AI program decides that you shouldn’t be offered….

The stock market hasn't risen - it's kept pace with runaway inflation. The overall spending value of a dollar has dropped 25% while the stonks have risen 25%. You're not making money, you're staying afloat.

Millenials have seen *three* black swans in their lifetimes, as they've been trying to get into adulthood. The Iraq War was right when they were old enough to get shot at in the sandbox, the 2008 crash wipes out the private hiring sector when they get back, and when they're in the prime of their careers, COVID broke the game for 3 years to protect old people.

This isn't to mention the fact that the corporate world has been actively weaponized against white men, who were trying to "climb the ladder."

Still, I've got a family, job, and a mortgage. Hardly a loser. But I can admit the cards were shite.
