Staying at a job for a long time is a good move

My Italian teacher told me "A volte bisogna abbracciare le persone che non ci piaccono per capire quanto grande scavare una buca nel proprio giardino".
Translates to "sometimes you have to hug the people you dislike so you know how big to dig a hole in your backyard."

Piggybacking off of that, a lot of "you should be loyal to a company" even if they operate in a way that shouldn't inspire loyalty.

after graduating college and moving to a big city for a job, "you don't bring sand to the beach" in regards to trying to maintain a long distance relationship with my girlfriend at the time.
crazy as in funny to me; not crazy as in the reasoning (spot on)

That it wasn’t safe for me to drive at night when I was 20, that having a job during school was bad for my education and future career prospects, that drinking alcohol would ruin my life, that even as a teenager that I shouldn’t cross the street to hang out with my cousins without permission.
When my dad was 16, he had a job where he was paid in booze or gasoline and allegedly visited every honkytonk and bar in South Louisiana outside of New Orleans before he turned 19.

My parents gaslit me into thinking I can survive off 35k as my first job (wanted me to stay in tx)
Not exactly the same but similar...was having a conversation with my step-dad and he said "when I got out of college my first job paid me $35k a year and I made it work." Mind you he wasn't saying this in a boomer-y lecture kind of way to me, we were just having a general conversation. I responded "That was my salary at my first job out of college too, 40 years later." He was shocked because we have the same degree and went into essentially the same field of work, and he did end up admitting that it's harder for millennials to achieve the same financial/life milestones as our parents did.

For their generation, that was true. Go to college or go to Vietnam. And the wage gap between college degree and no college was much bigger. College degrees were worth much more back then than they are today.

Gen X here
Working hard (strongly implied: many hours) is the way to the top.
I am on day 2 of early retirement. I am here to tell you that time is far more precious than this advice.
And treasure chest is quite full nonetheless.
Having / Controlling one’s Time + treasure very possible.

Well.......my Boomer uncle told my brother and I to start buying gold and silver 10 years ago. We bought some but not enough

“Y’all complain about 5-7% interest rates. My first home I bought the interest rate was 16%”
*Fails to mention their home cost them as much as a 2026 suburban*

Nah. There's a lot of variables that are contributing that hard work alone isn't going to get it done.
- For Millennials they've now lived through multiple recessions.
- Wage stagnation
- The cost of a college degree (that Boomers determined were "required")
- Jobs that a Boomer could enter with no work experience/no degree with paid on-site job training now requires a 4 year degree and to pay for your own training out of pocket.
- Nothing keeping up with the cost of living in most areas.
Of course these are the same folks that said if you don't buy avocado toast you can afford a house.
