And the people who can't sleep because of the data center took to social media to complain about the data center causing their insomnia. There is some sort of irony in that....
The concern over data centers which ain't getting much lip service is the fact that they are largely obsolete before they are completed. Its kind of like buying a PC in the early 90's...before you could pay for the damned thing at the register there was new, better model being put on the shelf in the same store. By the time you got yours to to the truck it needed multiple software updates and by the time you got it home it might be too old for updating....It was bad when a PC cost $1500, these things cost billions. The industry data indicates it may be all but impossible to recoup start-up costs but when has that ever caused venture capitalists to apply the brakes? When the taxpayers are bailing them out because they are too big to fail losing sleep is going to be more widespread than it is now.....

If by bitching about it you mean he couldn't find a company already doing it to buy or there wasn't a bloated government contract to do it then yeah, it was the bitching about it that has thus far stymied his efforts....

Is it? Really? Are you certain its the "dims"? The county I live in was almost 78% Trump in 2024. You can't hardly find a yard without a "No Data Centers" sign in it. There are more of those signs than the "No Granite Quarry" signs....in a county with one of the largest granite quarries in the SE which has held a several thousand acre tract for expansion for nearly 80 years. At best the desire to dictate to others what they can and can't do with their property is a bi-partisan issue.....

I’m sure that’s annoying, but our brains are able to turn that kind of noise into background white noise and ignore it pretty efficiently.
Not saying it shouldn’t be addressed, but it’s true.
The biggest problem is going to be that after a few weeks or months of that, you’ll have trouble sleeping without that background noise.

It was already a heavy industrial manufacturing site. The data center is likely quieter with less traffic.

Found a useful bit of trivia about Musk's Colossus supercomputer center in south Memphis. The initial build was done in just 122 days. That was possible due to the close proximity of FedEx's air and surface freight main hubs feeding the job site. Some related industries have relocated to Memphis. Contrary to what the Gov says, that is less likely to happen in rural La data centers.

The real issue isn't noise or air pollution, it's money the local race hustlers and LWNJ's want.

In any other city, I could see how this would negatively affect quality of life.
But in Memphis, I'd think this would just drown out the gunfire.

50-55 db is not that bad at all. Come check out back of my house around the lake when all the critters have hatched for the summer in late May/Early June. Sounds like a freaking airport out there.
