Passed by the site a few weeks ago. The McKinney ISD voted for and passed a tax to build the stadium and event center.
Taxpayers in that part of Texas like to see their money go towards awesome facilities like this.

Just looked it up. Total property tax is 2.48 per $100 of value. And there is a 8.25% sales tax (includes state and local). On a $500,000 home, it's $12,400 per year. However, browsing through their real estate market, you get more bang for your buck in McKinney than in Baton Rouge. A $500,000 home along the Jefferson corridor in BR is probably around $425,000 in McKinney. So, it's a cheaper sales tax but a higher property tax with no income tax. I imagine it's close to a wash once you figure out the effective rate - except they have small colleges for HS and we have Woodlawn.

Priorities in this country are so out of whack it's ridiculous.

McKinney is a suburb of Dallas with a shite ton of money living in it.

Their schools are top notch. No overcrowding. Why not?

Texas doesn't play around with their high school football.

i love football and all but this is such a waste of money. The crowning example of a Texas swinging dick contest

Good for them, I guess. Still won't be playing any defense in Texas.

If my local school board wants to impose a tax on me, I would hope it's for the construction of new schools or renovations of old ones, not to build a football stadium.

if they approve the extra tax to build it I see no problem here.

BR approved a Council on Aging tax. All about priorities. See we are taking care of old people while they are just worried about sports.

No, but isn't McKinney, TX one of the fastest growing areas in America? Places like this need new schools due to overcrowding. That's $70 million that could go to building new schools when needed.

Meanwhile in Lafayette, La. we have kids in portable buildings.
Our state is so fricked.
