The math and reading performance of 13-year-olds in the United States has hit the lowest level in decades, according to test scores released today from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, the gold-standard federal exam.
The last time math performance was this low for 13-year-olds was in 1990. In reading, 2004.

Why It Matters: 13-year-olds missed a crucial time in their schooling.
Performance has fallen significantly since the 2019-2020 school year, when the coronavirus pandemic wrought havoc on the nation’s education system. But the downward trends reported today began years before the health crisis, raising questions about a decade of disappointing results for American students.
The federal standardized test, known as NAEP, was given last fall, and focused on basic skills. The 13-year-olds scored an average of 256 out of 500 in reading, and 271 out of 500 in math, down from average scores of 260 in reading and 280 in math three years ago.
Achievement declined across lines of race, class and geography. But in math, especially, vulnerable children — including Black, Native American and low-income students — experienced bigger drops.

No shite. It's apparent to anyone with any sort of logic that our "cure" for Covid was worse than the disease.
The power hungry tyrants that forced this on the masses should be tried and sentenced for their crimes.

Letting 6th and 7th graders stay home for a year + and make TikTok’s instead of learning
I am shocked

Covid + No Child Left Behind + Common Core = bunch of kids in school that aren’t learning much.

I do agree with this. The middle class is disappearing, and most of it will end up with the lower class. It's frightening.

But how are the Fortnite scores?

Math: Number of blowjobs teachers are giving.
Reading: Sexts of teachers offering blowjobs.

Most folks are going to jump on the decline since COVID but this has been an issue long before that. COVID just sped it up.
Parents have stopped (or never started) reinforcing these things at home and have become completely dependent on teachers and schools to do so. And when you have a kid with disciplinary issues, hands are tied because of threat of parent lawsuits if you do discipline.
This isn’t just happening in public schools either.

Has almost everything to do with lack of discipline and accountability from parents, administration and school board policies being too liberal in many public schools where testing takes place, very small with COVID.

Any society that neglects its youth for any reason is in serious trouble, and here we are.

Diversity is our strength.
They'll just follow the script and blame the tests.

This is a huge factor. Learning doesn’t start & end at school. Parents need to step tf up.
The Louisiana legislature just passed a bill this session that would require 3rd graders who can’t read on level to repeat 3rd grade. They’re given 3 difference chances to pass before being held back. This is pretty significant since a 3rd graders reading level is a good indication of a students academic trajectory. I don’t agree with the multiple chances but I’ll be damned if Louisiana actually did something good.

Next people will bring up demographics, which is definitely a factor, but the whites are also falling behind.
There’s really nothing to be hopeful about. There are no meaningful positive trends.

Covid response, lazy parents, along with a steady influx of people from countries where education is not a priority and this is what you get.

How could this have happened under Dr. Jill Biden's watch?
