Get ready for a greater gap in education and performance levels between private and public schools immediately followed by the narrative that it is somehow the private school population's fault.

Also, I’m in favor of kids going to school year round. Take 2 week breaks at various times throughout the year but year round just makes more sense.

The Louisiana legislature just passed a bill this session that would require 3rd graders who can’t read on level to repeat 3rd grade. They’re given 3 difference chances to pass before being held back. This is pretty significant since a 3rd graders reading level is a good indication of a students academic trajectory. I don’t agree with the multiple chances but I’ll be damned if Louisiana actually did something good

Surprised that actually made it through. Wonder if it passed down party lines.

Exactly.

The gaslighting scheme never ends.

Performance has fallen significantly since the 2019-2020 school year, when the coronavirus pandemic wrought havoc on the nation’s education system. But the downward trends reported today began years before the health crisis, raising questions about a decade of disappointing results for American students.

No doubt we've screwed up education in the US.

And parents should be livid with the push for remote learning during the pandemic. That hurts low income and working class students more than anyone. They just got farther and farther behind.

The solution is there, but there is no political willpower to execute on it because it will upset the teacher unions. Meanwhile, the few suburbs with excellent schools will continue to get more expensive, and private schooling will continue to get more popular (along with home schooling).
The costs of having kids in the US will continue to grow because we've allowed the wrong people to take control over public education.

The far left has thrown the baby out with the bathwater around schooling. Everyone else has just reacted to these idiotic policies that exist to protect the unions. You can't innovate when you have to kowtow to the unions or federal interests. School boards have to be more sensitive to the interest of their community, the parents, and the motivations of those families.

With the increased need for a 2 parent household; I am surprised there aren't more people pushing for this. Of course, you'd have the teacher unions pushing back because they need their 10-15 week break

Think about when you were a 13 year old trying to figure out a relatively complicated algebra problem. You're having to try and focus hard so you can work it out in your brain. Now think about doing that while having a little computer box on your hip that buzzes, or beeps every 15 seconds. A little computer box that you basically base your life around.

This is why I'm ending the Dept of Ed when I get elected.
No more federally back student loans. No more money. No more employees. Just going to take a portion of the existing budget and send it directly to the states and then save the remaining portion of the budget for something useful.

People advance on the margins. Struggle is one of the better motivators to challenge yourself mentally.

Everyone is looking outside for answers. Thats how you stop evolving.

Yep. My daughter started kindergarten in 2020 and that whole class seems behind. My second started kindergarten this year and is so much ahead of my first at this point it’s staggering. Good thing we forced masks and zoom learning on these kids. What could go wrong?

I mean, I’m not shitting on private but it’s not as tough of a system to sustain when you can easily boot problematic kids from your system and require parental participation.

Does that fall on the shitty policies that public school districts have been forced to maintain for a variety of reasons? Yes.

I’m a firm believer at this point that districts can still meet mandates that every child should have access to an education by handing them an ID and password and forcing their badass kids to figure it out.

No Child Left Behind was a bipartisan policy passed under Bush. It’s a short-sided perspective to solely blame liberalist policies. Everybody has a burden to bear on this one.

We could do this for far less money.

All kids have had access to education or a long time. I don't want public schools destroyed, I want the stranglehold they have on the system and the catering to people who do not value education.

Start focusing on your higher achievers and you will see a huge difference. Public schools have catered to the lowest common denominator for too long.

The politicians representing my district that I voted for in the last election backed a bill that reinstated mandatory expulsion for specific behavioral issues across the state.
