This guy may not be like most others. Would like to know what his original MOS was.
The guy was a petroleum specialist….which I have no clue about because that would have been on the MSSG side of things. Imagine his training to be a firearms instructor would have a bigger impact on his lethality than his military training.

The outdoorsmen I know aren't exactly type to turn on their TV or check their phones for the local news before they head out to the stand.
Hopefully they are the type that would notice the choppers in the air all over and searchlights and want to find out what's up, before heading out.

Maine does not have Red Flag laws in place.
Must be priorities as Maine just started on day of shootings a bunch of new laws including:
quote:
• Gender-affirming care, such as hormone therapy, is now covered for people insured through MaineCare, the state’s Medicaid program.
• Minors who are at least 16 years old can get gender-affirming hormone therapy without a parent’s consent.
• There is no longer a specific time limit on abortion access in Maine. The new law allows physicians to provide abortions after viability – generally considered 22-24 weeks – when they deem it necessary
• Cities and towns now can provide the overdose antidote naloxone in public places such as restrooms, libraries, municipal buildings and parks to better respond to opioid-related drug overdoses. The drug can be provided in wall-mounted boxes, for example.
Anyway some proposed red flag laws require very little to have guns taken away while most if not all states would already could consider a terrorist threat to attack a felony and along with being locked up in a mental hospital would have had grounds to deal with his guns.

My understanding is he was a civilian firearms instructor. We don’t have an MOS in the Marines as such…maybe the Army does.

Maine has a 'Yellow Flag' law.

We have several MOSs for firearms instructors.

Just curious, isn’t there a proficiency test before they can begin the training? Had a friend a few years ago try to get this but didn’t pass the proficiency test.

Too many guns owned by too many gun nuts. These sorts of events are walking advertisements for sensible gun control.
You hate to see it-- muh Second Amendment. Perhaps the second needs to itself be amended.

This argument is just plain stupid. Never have rules because the government may abuse them.
The government wants its citizens as disarmed as possible. I’m not in favor of giving an inch on this issue. History is replete with examples of what happens when the government has all the guns.

Good luck to you, you should probably get started now, that amendment ain’t going change itself.

Press conference right now showing there’s been 18 dead 13 injured

What’s your definition of a ‘gun nut’?

Not really sure. They taught bear safety training for local/city/state agencies. May have done private sector as well. Was usually a day or two of bear behavior and bear spray training followed by firearm training. The person she partnered with for the firearm training was retired and he was ready to give it up. She had hoped to get certified to be able to do the full course solo. I just know it was the required class for her to be certified as a firearm instructor.

I worked the CMMC ER April - July this year. When I saw numbers last night of 50-60 injured I said no way that ER can handle those numbers. Then, as they showed video outside the ER and there was little or no EMS rolling up or out, I didn't think the injured numbers being thrown out there could be correct.

In line with your post, from the NY Times:
quote:
The U.S. Army’s public affairs office at the Pentagon said a Robert Russell Card II, who has a date of birth matching the person being sought in connection with the shootings, is a sergeant first class in the Army Reserve. Sergeant Card enlisted in December 2002 and has no combat deployments. He was trained as a petroleum supply specialist, which involves shipping and storing fuel for various military vehicles and aircraft.

Horrible. But where did the 22 come from? Usually deaths lag and are not over estimated

Two LE helicopters spent a long time circling just south of Monmouth but they seem to be leaving the area.
