THC only stays in breath during the "peak window of impairment," about one to two hours after smoking marijuana, according to Hound Labs. The level of THC found in breath samples drops to zero at three hours after smoking, the company's research found.

When an individual blows into the breathalyzer, it can determine within a couple minutes whether there is alcohol, THC or both in the person's system. Since THC is only present in someone's breath during that peak two-hour window, the driver is considered impaired when it's detected.

You have to be an absolute fool to believe that with today’s technology and being on the brink of total legalization of marijuana throughout the country, that someone eventually would figure this out. I’m sure it isn’t perfect quite yet, but they’re on the path to getting something done. One of the main concerns of the opposition of legalization looks to be on its way to being fruitless.

gonna be crazy when people pass the field impairment tests minus the eye test and the breathalyzer, yet still get charged.

You realize this already happens, right?

I work odd hours and when on the way home I don’t want to dodge burnouts high on the reefer driving to Taco Bell because they have the munchies. Incriminate it!

Wonder if that will work with edibles. Those last a lot longer than 1-2 hours.

Good. I am all for legalizing it, although I can't/don't use myself.

It is wayyy less harmful than alcohol and is natural so I don't understand why in 2018 it is still illegal federally. Make it legal and tax the shite out of it. Louisiana wouldn't be in a financial crisis if they did this.

I think that was his point.

If this company does indeed develop a reliable test for “active” THC, they are going to make a LOT of money.

Alcohol and THC arent the only two drugs people get high and drive on.

Bigger breakthrough will be in the corporate world. If this is a reliable on the spot test it opens up drug policies to allow of hours use of marijuana.

Louisiana would definitely still have financial issues.

we no longer do pre-employment testing for alcohol or THC. its stupid and has nothing at all to do with the potential quality of the candidate(s)

i really dont care what people who work for us do when they are not at work, and if they drink/smoke while on the clock we have policies in place to address it

You are absolutely right. i'm sure the money would go to more worthless things like "studies' and to line politicans pockets but at least the first year we would not have to hear about the "fiscal cliff"

That's probably more dangerous than speeding.

I thought we had reached a consensus that locking people up and ruining lives over weed was ridiculous. Maybe focus some of that energy on the opioid crisis?

What’s so wrong with a urine or hair test? If you fail that’s obviously a sign you’re still intoxicated

This is why I believe it should be legal. Again, legalize and tax it would generate millions of tax dollars PLUS save millions more on police, courts, jail, etc without weed offenders. Cops could actually try to better the near 70% unsolved murder cases in parts of LA.

Lol. If you’re smoking, it’s less than that.

Why tax the shite out of it? Do you really think our state will use the money wisely? I'm always confused when I see "conservatives" pining for the state to tax the hell out of something they don't like
