There already is a private venture group seeking to do just this, but north of town and it connects to 21 just south of Arcosa. Being that it's a private venture it's a toll bridge.

Won't ever happen as it needs the town's approval and the town is totally against any new bridge because the businesses at the base of the current bridge would get hurt big time.

I don’t get that. You know where we aren’t going to dinner any evening? Not fricking Madisonville and 45 minutes in traffic. You think people are waiting in traffic forever and like “I think I’ll pull over and eat here”? Hell no. Make it easier to get in and out of the town to help the businesses there.

Yeah, they won’t be negatively impacted by falloff in traffic. People who live south of the existing bridge will still use the bridge and most of the people down the 22 highway will use it and that is a lot of people.

I remember when there was nothing but a creosote plant on that highway and how there’s like 10 subdivisions with thousands of homes within 5 miles of downtown Madisonville.

It does not need permission from the Town of Madisonville. The entire structure is outside the Madisonville city limits.

My greatest fear with Cooper is that he will be beholden to developers and homebuilders and sort of give them free reign to do whatever they want and ignore a lot of these problems. Growth is good. But stupid growth without some sort of master plan is stupid.

Sooner or later a new bridge at Madisonville will have to be built and the locals know it.Ditto for road expansion. Flooding issues probably needed to be addressed 3-4 years ago, really. I spoke with a guy who was with Donahue and Favret a while back who said that the price tag now is pretty hefty to do all of this, but he said that it was needed . They have plans, the engineers whomever would be chosen all have the plans, the problem is the residents. They are the most negatively impacted. They think something should be done, but they don't want to pay for it and they won't. Scalise should at least try and get some money out of the infrastructure bill . It is going to pass with or without him .

B-I-N-G-frickING-O!

They're already losing the business because people avoid that area like the plague due to traffic. If traffic could bypass that area, it would allow locals to get in and out more easily and they will start to frequent the area more.

I'd actually like to see the new bridge have an off/on ramp at 21 and then continue on to come back to 22 west of Madisonville city limits.

Sanctuary: huge price tag for lots backing up right to your neighbors’ side of the house or back yard. For $1m, put me on the river, or some place where I can’t see my neighbor brushing his teeth in the mornin for that price.

Additionally, wasn’t a whole bunch of construction material stolen in there, to the tune of tens of thousands?

I got on the 12 in Hammond at 11:57 AM after meetings. It took me literally 2 hours to get to my office off of Causeway in Mandeville. Total frick show today.

The worst traffic I've ever seen was between the north end of the Causeway and Northpark. It was right after Katrina / right before Rita. It took an hour to get from Northpark to what's now called Judge Someting-or-other Drive, with the hospital.

I would rather do a complete lap of I-285 in rush hour driving a Trabant than relive that.

currently I12 east is a parking lot from Robert to Covington
20 miles of bumper to bumper traffic on the primary east/west corridor of the gulf coast

That's the same shite I was in between noon and 2pm. I live off of 1077/1085 and Waze brought me home via 21 earlier. Something is also awry West bound between 21 and 1077.

I was in all that mess too but luckily there was a authorized vehicle turnaround and I took that back to Robert then went 190 east. I got to Tyler st and 21....took me 45 minutes to get to Causeway from Tyler St. WTF is going on???

Why is the traffic always awful? This has blown up in the past two years. People say I12 construction but the construction is going on behind barriers. Traffic should not come to a dead stop from it.

There was a bad 18 wheeler accident today. Not saying accidents and traffic aren’t the norm but I think today was much worse than normal.

Also, for anyone in the know, why has The Sanctuary seemed to have lost its "glamor"? At one time, it seems like every Northshore OT baller wanted to build in The Sanctuary. They sold a ton of lots at top dollar prices as people intended to build McMansions. I remember a big deal being made about Sean Payton moving in there. But, now, many of those lots remain wooded and there are always lots for sale -- many below the original selling price. What happened?

As the other poster said, it is still a hot area. I close on a lot I there at the end of the month. I looked into the new phase at Tchefuncte, but chose Sanctuary due to location (much less traffic in Mandeville), tranquility, custom designed houses, and that it is in Mandeville city limits. They added two phases within the past ten years and everything was devoured.

That being said, Tchefuncte has over half their lots sold sight unseen, as they are still developing the land. The sales guy told me that they are getting several people from New Orleans.
