It’s part of the Louisiana social contract . You do what you should do to not jeopardize the lives of others during evacuations. And the contract goes both ways. If you declare that you are on your own, you ARE on your own. If you die, you had a good run.

Typical "rookie" move! Being over zealous and nervous while scaring older people out of their homes and making them leave for no reason!
Such an ignorant statement

All I know is I took the ferry over to Braithwaite a few weeks after Hurricane Isaac and they had caskets that had floated all over up by the top of the levee, houses and cars that had basically floated into the street and onto the levee. It was the strangest thing I ever saw. It was a complete disaster area.
If I lived over there and was told to leave, I would get the hell out. There are not many people that live in that area, but those that rebuilt are persistent. They've built the highest houses I've ever seen out there. It's like 3 flights of steps to get in the door. I would need an elevator if I lived in one of those homes because that would get old after about two days.

Will they still let people enter south plaq? I got a few rig personnel on the boat with me right now since they grounded the choppers today and all their cars are at PHI in boothville

Idk if they’re blocking people from going now but they better hurry up because I heard earlier the flood gate north of Jesuit Bend is gonna be closing tomorrow evening

From Plaquemines.
First...if morganza had been opened, this would almost be a non issue. However, no one had the foresight to think...maybe it isn’t a good idea to have the effing river at effing record high levels going into hurricane season. But here we the eff are.
Essentially the whole parish besides belle chasse is being told to evacuate. This isn’t a rookie move. The threat isn’t necessarily the river over topping...it is the back levees or lack of back levees. The water is already so damn high from the river, shite is only going to get worse once the storm surge gets here. Not going to take a lot to on the west side and there isn’t any protection for parts of the east side.
So telling people to take care of business, prepare and leave is actually prudent.

Would someone please explain the concept of a “voluntary evacuation”? WTH does that even mean?
Am I not free to evacuate at any time?

that doesn't sound like the freedom loving Texas I keep hearing about.
Read the actual code from any freedom loving state and you will find they are just like the rest except maybe on a few "vocal" issues.

Write your SSN on your arm.

Mandatory means that this is your window to leave. If you stay, you are on your own. They can’t force you to do anything.

The other fun part of this...there is a crazy possibility for over topping from both the back levees and the river levees.
Which means there will be no high ground to run to and you are effed in the worst way and no one will be rescuing you until the fun is over. Better have a boat.

It means that emergency services may still be in effect, but it’s likely best to leave.

You will be able to egress, but I think you will need a placard to access.
