Also needs to be said that a mandatory evac is usually followed by a curfew. They won't force you to leave your property but they sure AF will force you to stay on it during the curfew.

Wife's friend is in Braithwaite Park. Just moved in a few months ago to a big beautiful house that was super cheap. They are headed to Chalmette today to stay with her parents for a few days. They have a young baby and are really stressing out.

I know the houses are cheap there, but I could never live outside the giant wall.

I was told that they wouldn't by someone who works for the parish but I have a feeling the flood gates at Oakville will get closed eventually.

Anbody south of that is going to be stuck. Hell they did say mandatory so you know what you in for if you're still there.

There is a route over the gate by the levee

As much as I hate it, Plaquemines below Belle Chase needs to be returned to the wild. Ditch the levees and let the river do its thing. It is just a matter of time.

I don't fully agree with that...East Plaquemines below Braithwaite just needs to let go of the levees and let mother nature rebuild the marshes...

West Plaquemines, I think there should be an elevated highway south of Myrtle Grove to West Pointe ala Hache with an overflow channel where the crevasse took place a long time ago...

A chenier system on the west side of Plaquemines would be a good idea.

There were over 10k people on the south end before Katrina. There's probably half of that now. The total parish population didn't change much. Most of those people are just in Belle Chasse.

I would never think abandoning the southern end would be a good idea but I do understand the reasoning.
