So the Parish President has ordered a “mandatory evacuation” for Plaquemines Parish (east bank) south of Oakville to Venice.

LINK

I have always wondered, what happens if you don’t want to go? Do they have the legal authority to force you or is it just a “we aren’t coming to get you - good luck” situation? How about post storm when they close areas off? What if you are still there then? Anyone live through this with Katrina and have insight?

ETA - put the “s” on Plaquemines. Never knew it was plural.

You’re on your own. No rescue.

God speed.

Water stacked. Levees fricked.

You don’t have to leave but they don’t have to go get you out- and won’t. Not gonna put their men in harm’s way for idiots.

I don't think they can force you off your property. If you need help, though, they're going to tell you "too bad, so sad" and come get the body after it's safe for responders to get to the body.

Or what's left after all the animals have a go at it, I guess.

They can’t force you from your home but if you ignore the evacuation order, then you’re on your own. No emergency responders until storm passes and you’re going to be stuck there once the flood gates are closed if you’re outside the flood wall. Better be stocked up on supplies and have a boat or house built up high in case the water comes up

Just make sure you write your name and birth date on you somewhere with a sharpie. To make identification easier

It’s a way of saying you are on your own (with no electricity, additional food, nor emergency services).

States vary quite a bit on this and I don't know LA law. SC, NC and VA all make not leaving a misdemeanor of varying levels so in theory you could be arrested and taken from your home. TX is pretty specific that they can use necessary force to remove you. TX

It would be a pretty unusual situation for a governmental entity to use force but the option exists at least in someplace. Someone may be aware of the LA law.

Grew up south of Braithwaite and we never had any issues with flooding until that great wall was built in Lake Borgne. Once again, trying to save NOLA destroys everyone around it. Lower Plaquemines Parish flooding and the algae bloom in the lake are very good examples on consequences of these decisions.

As much as I hate it, Plaquemines below Belle Chase needs to be returned to the wild. Ditch the levees and let the river do its thing. It is just a matter of time.

This has been debunked scientifically and is a non factual statement. The induced surge due to the wall in that area is on the order of a few inches and is nearly negligible.

Braithwaite and the east bank floods because it no longer has the miles of marsh and swamp between it and the Gulf, no longer has a chain of barrier island beyond that, plus seas are rising, plus land is subsiding, plus levees are settling.

Pretty sure if you stay they can enact martial law and curfews.

Typical "rookie" move! Being over zealous and nervous while scaring older people out of their homes and making them leave for no reason!

Nothing happens. Maybe arrest you if they catch you running around at night
