SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police have launched a homicide investigation into the deaths of a man and woman found dead in a car that caught fire at an abandoned home. Police believe the couple had given a ride to a man earlier in the evening. According to the Shreveport Police Department, a witness called officers and explained that someone approached her father and step-mother outside Mall St. Vincent. The suspect used the couple’s cell phone to call a cab before they decided to give them a ride. The couple was found inside a burned car at the home near the intersection of Penick Street and San Jacinto Avenue, approximately three miles from the mall.

quote:

Overnight, a family member called KSLA News 12 and stated two people went missing from the mall. The caller stated the couple was at the mall with their children when a man approached them asking for a ride. The couple asked their children to go home. The children said their parents never returned home. That same family member said the couple’s daughter said the money in her bank account was transferred to her parents and their phones were off. This is a developing story. KSLA News 12 will have live reports throughout the morning.

I know it’s Shreveport, but this doesn’t typically happen. Article doesn’t say any names but this was on my Facebook this morning. If you go to her profile it shows they were eating at PizzaRev last night before it happened. Pretty crazy story.

that's a confusing story. The couple were with their children at a mall. They "asked their children to go home" so that they could give this dude a ride? How did the children get home? and why would they tell their children to find alternate means to go home in order to give one person a ride?

If the children (or at least one of them) is of driving age and they had two cars at the mall, then it's easily explained.

EDIT: it looks like they had at least one older daughter so disregard. The circumstances seemed odd with very little information known. It looks like a simple case of a TPOS lowlife taking advantage of folks trying to help.

This is why I don't speak to, acknowledge, or give anything to people on the street. I value my life more than contributing to someone's drug habit.

Yeah, I'm assuming one of the kids drove and met them there and they told them to go home because they knew something sketchy was going on. Very odd for sure.

It's probably not the most Christian thing, but I take the Rick Blaine attitude - I stick my neck out for nobody.

I take care of me and my own. I do my best for those around me, but I'm not going to put myself at risk for a stranger like this. I'll take a number and call someone for him.

Give him a ride? Sorry, pal. No can do.

Shreveport is such a shite hole. Mall St. Vincent is in the middle of the ghetto and should have been demolished years ago. It's is incredibly sad for their kids... to know their parents are trying to do something nice for an "underprivileged" person, only to be murdered for it...

This horrific tragedy added to the 3-4 shootings in Shreveport last night and pizza delivery guy that got shot 15 times last week. Yeah Mayor Tyler and Chief Crump, stop trying to blow smoke up peoples asses by saying crime is down.

This place is small town Chicago. You’d be out of your mind to go out after dark without a gun.

ETA- Idiots want Tyler to have a second term as mayor? It’ll be an out and out shootout free for all if it happens.

It seems like it’s getting worse by the day. I can’t believe people voted for Ollie Tyler again, seeing the current state of Shreveport.

Nobody believes crime is down and Ollie has no shot at a 2nd term. She really should concede.

Guess I'm out of my mind since I do it all the time

My uncle is a former police officer who gives rides all the time for those that ask, but he has a rule: the person must submit to a patdown and bag search before they are allowed in his car. If they refuse, they can frick off.

He says about 80% of vagabonds refuse.

At some point you have to protect yourselves first.

This is pretty fishy

Something is fishy. The guy getting a ride has them transfer funds from separate accounts? The kids just leave their parents without questioning?

I'll wait for more info on this one.

There has to be a special place in hell for those that harm people who went out of their way to help them.
